Play From Desktop Folder ?
« on: December 10, 2012, 08:51:33 pm »

I did a search, but couldn't find the answer.
Can JRiver MC 17.0.182 access a folder on my Win Vista desktop?
TIA

Is the folder on the same computer that MC is installed on? Do you want the contents of that folder imported into the MC Library? What are the contents: Audio, Video, Images?

It's on the same computer as MC
Contains audio files, and I'd like to play these files, but there doesn't seem to be a way for MC to access the desktop

Try enabling Shell Integration.

http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Shell_Integration

To enable it, choose Tools > Options > General > Shell Options > Enable Shell Integration

This will allow you to easily play and import files from your desktop folder.

Done.

If you want the files to be included in your Library then go to Tools, Import, and either Import a Single Folder or Configure Auto Import. After this is done any changes made to that folder will show in your Library.

If you don't want the files in your Library then on the left pane go to Drives and Devices Explorer and find your files.

I certainly recommend the Import to Library though.

Ah, but the problem is that the desktop doesn't show Drives & Devices.
All my drives appear, as well as My Network Places, and folders for Shared Documents, Admin.s Documents and My Documents.
But no Desktop.

I found mine by going to Documents & Settings/All users.

That folder doesn't appear in JR's Drives & devices.
When I open the folders that do appear, none lead to my desktop.

I'm stumped.

After doing the Shell Integration can you see the Desktop in Tools, Import? If so you can set your Desktop folder as an Import Folder. Any files in that folder will then appear in your Library and can be played. This is the preferred way to run MC, not playing from Drives & Devices.

Yep, the folder shows in Tools, Import, and that's how I'll access the folder.
Thanks for your time, attention, and expertise,

Ira - You are very welcome. Glad it worked out. I'm still deep in the learning curve of this incredibly powerful & flexible program, and probably always will be. It's well worth it!
