32 bit
« on: January 11, 2013, 09:41:57 am »

I have a M2TECH Young Dac.  I tried to play a 384/32 bit wave file by using Kernal streaming.  JRiver wants to change it to 24 bit.  It plays 384/24 bit fine however I cannot get it to stream at 32 bit.  What is the problem?  Support from M2TECH says that WASAPI and Direct are limited to 24 bit.  Since J River supports 32 bit, what configuration should I use to get 32 bit to work?

32-bit integer mode was added to MC18 in DSP Studio > Output Format.

However, only some hardware will support this.  I don't know if the M2TECH does, but you could try.

Just downloaded MC18.  At the moment it is playing a 17.5 GB 384/32-bit Wave file with Kernal streaming into my M2TECH Young Dac. So far so good.

Correction: I was not listening to 32 bit, MC changed the bit depth to 24 bits.  So MC18 is not the solution.

Did you make sure Output Format was checked (selected) as well? Just changing the bit rate doesn't automatically activate the DSP.

Also, did you make sure you downloaded the latest (18.0.122) from the Media Center 18 subforum? In 18.0.69 the following was added:

5. Fixed: 32-bit integer output was not working properly with Kernel Streaming or WASAPI output.

You might test 32-bit in Windows > Sound first.  If it doesn't work there, it won't work anywhere.

I tried the latest version and it worked.  I made the bit depth equal to 32 not 32 floating point or source

Thanks for your help.
