bluescreens with Wyred4Sound DAC2 driver
« on: September 22, 2012, 07:07:16 am »

on two separate machines I am getting BSOD's - stop errors identifying the w4s64.sys driver - 00000050 = "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

this error occurs when skipping backward or forwards to another point in the video

I have run this past W4S and they are looking into it but thought i would ask here in case anyone has any input

to me it seems like a manufacturers driver issue and that I cant do much about it at all - can i ?

i am runnning win 7 64bit on both machines and kernel streaming

I spoke with Clint (of Wyred4Sound) about this a couple weeks ago.  In general, a BSOD is a hardware / driver level thing.

However, we recommend WASAPI - Event Style on Windows 7, so I'd certainly try that.  More on output modes here:

Bump.

I'm just wondering if changing output modes helped at all.

hi Matt

sorry for late reply- have been back on this site but didnt log in  :-[

as for your query- yes it did prevent bluescreening

I never thought of changing from kernel streaming as W4S recommend it as providing the best sound quality and as I mostly listen rather than watch
I was reluctant to change that setting.

Thanks for letting me know.

I think Wyred4Sound might want to change their recommendations to match the JRiver recommendations, so I've dropped Clint a note.

Thanks Matt for the recommendation to change to WASAPI - Event Style.  I just received my DAC-2 three days ago and the documentation still recommends plain WASAPI.

fyi for the JRiver community, I am using a Windows 8 Pro (64bit) media server and kept getting this blue screen error whenever I would stop playback or change the current track:

System Thread Exception Not Handled (w4s64.sys)

Changing to WASAPI-Event Style has made this problem completely go away and I am now thoroughly enjoying my new system.  :)

Thanks again!
Andrew
