Reccomendations on using any universal remote

Hi,

I use MC17 now (still not on MC18).  I have HDMI video output and COAX audio to an AV reciever.  My comcast box also uses HDMI.

So, I have two sources that I switch on the AV Receiver.

I wish to combine the functions of 4 remotes into one using a universal remote of some kind.  Can someone give me advice on this?

I have the following remotes:

Sony LCD 52" TV
Comcast Digital cable box
Cambridge Audio 640R HT receiver
Windows Media Center (Rosewill) remote for MC17

Can I easily and reliably turn on/off and switch all these devices with a universal remote like the Logitech Harmony 1100 or something else maybe (you suggest?)

I think the Harmony One is pretty nice. I control my AVR's 3 different zones, disc palyer, windows, xbox and TV. I'm not crazy about Harmony's setup procedure but it works.

I seem to be the only one in this world that doesn't like the Harmony remotes.

Actually, its not the remote I don't like (its good quality hardware) its that the software is complete crap and limits the possibilities for programming.

My harmony ended up in a drawer somewhere ...

Thanks for the advice.  I have not yet made a decision as one option I am currently used to (and trained in) is to just juggle several remotes.

No I agree. That's why I said the setup wasn't too good. It is really made for non A/V geeks and is easy to setup but once you want to become a power user you are stuck going through convoluted menus.

I like the Harmony One itself a lot.

One option that is a little off the beaten path...

I use the Lenovo N5902 with my HTPC setup.  The drawback, of course, is that it can't communicate with your components via IR commands.

However, I found this company Promixis http://www.promixis.com/girder.php that makes software called "Girder."  You could use this software along with one of the IR devices they sell to program hotkey's on your keyboard to control your components.

I'm considering doing this myself, but all I really want to do is power on/off my amp and TV, which is really simple.  If you have more complex needs than that, it may not be a good solution for you.
