Disc (DVD/BD/CD) Playback On Startup [Solved]
« on: January 16, 2013, 11:07:02 am »

Whenever I restart/boot my HTPC, Media Center autoplays the disc in the DVD/BD/CD drive. I do not want it to do this, ever.

I have MC set to start up with Media Server on startup, but all autoplay disc options are set to "Nothing" and the startup options are set to not autoplay the previous Playing Now. All (all as in every single available device) Windows AutoPlay settings are set to "Do Nothing". This does not occur when starting up MC manually (after closing down MC and server completely).

What other options do I have to control this? It's rather irritating.

It's been reported before. I think the devs are aware of it but there's currently no option to stop this happening. Matt briefly spoke about adding some delay at startup or something to prevent this behavior but I'd have to search for that topic to refresh my memory.

I don't think I've heard this one before.  Double-check the Windows auto-play because maybe it's engaging?

(I think raym is thinking about the issue where a disc in a drive can _appear_ like a disc insert when using AnyDVD or DVDFab Passkey, and we don't know a way around that)

It's definitely not Windows AutoPlay. Everything there is set to "Do Nothing". It could be this AnyDVD issue though, as I do have it installed and set to start with Windows. Is this the same scenario that you are referring to? If that is the case, I'm a bit confused as to how AnyDVD's behavior would somehow be interpreted as a call to play the disc, but I'm clearly missing part of the picture if that's what is going on.

Oh that might have been it. Thanks Matt.

When Anydvd scans a disc it takes exclusive access to the drive. When it is done it releases the drive back to the OS and that looks like an inserted disc. So when MC is set to play a disc upon insert, it will play it when both Anydvd and MC is set to startup automatically.

At least that's my interpretation of whats going on :P.

You could set MC to not do anything when a disc is inserted, you'd have to start it yourself when Anydvd is done scanning it.

Okay. This makes sense to me...

...but I've already done this, which is where this all stops making sense to me.

I'm looking for my setup to NEVER play a disc without my explicitly doing so, via the Theater View interface (which is how it works now, apart from Windows startup). Is there anything else not mentioned yet here that could have an effect on this?

In the theater view options, try disabling the option for "intelligent disc insertion" (or something along those lines - not at the pc right now to check exactly what it's called). That might have something to do with it also.

This seems to have worked. Thank you!
Odd that this would seemingly contradict the other autoplay options (which I guess only apply to Standard View?).

Yeah, not quite sure why there's a special option for this just for theater view but glad it worked. Sorry I didn't think of it earlier. Like you, I spent ages trying to get to the bottom of this but it was some time back and I'd forgotten what I'd found.
