Minimum Hardware (in reality)

Based on experience, can anyone say how MJ will perform on an Intel Celeron 1.1GHz with 128MB RAM running WinXP?  Can't have any skips during playback--but, this machine will do nothing but run MJ.  I'm used to a P3-600 512MB RAM Win2kPro, which does great running MJ alone, but very occasionally will skip when I'm doing something I/O intensive.

I'm curious too. I have plans to assemble a mp3-car kit with a very, very cheap computer (and slow, of course) with MJ8 with visualizations, sound effects, etc... Wich is the minimum configuration already tested?

If you don't want visualizations, a 200 - 300 MHz should be plenty.

If you want DVD and visualizations, the more power, the better.  I upgraded my multimedia PC from a 500, because it just wasn't enough juice to run the visualizations or DVD at TV resolutions.

Yeah, I'm used to engineering software, specifically finite element analysis packages.  Throw the biggest processor you can at it, then add 512MB to 1GB RAM (or more), then as much disk as you can afford, and the best graphics card you can buy, and you still find yourself waiting and waiting on the machine.  Anyway, a little bird told me that for playing music with MJ (without visualizations), a Celeron 500 or higher is more than enough, and 128MB RAM is fine.  There is a noticeable difference from 64MB to 128MB, but little difference from 128MB to 256MB.
