Currently we're letting the OS tell us the default font to use, and it's answering "Lucida Grande".  The problem is, that font does not support East Asian characters for our friends in China, Japan, Korea etc.  When I use "Arial Unicode MS" for the font, the Asian characters work ok, but the font doesn't look very nice as a default (to my eye).

Please let us know your favorite, commonly available Mac font for use as a default in MC.  Big bonus for one that supports East Asian characters.

Bump.  We know there's a font expert hiding somewhere on this forum.

Probably you're going to have to get the Font option working so folks can see for themselves.

I don't know much about this stuff, but it seems pan-Unicode fonts are not so common (see the pan-unicode section):

I vote for Chalkboard. :-)

I'd default to Lucida Grande (System and many apps) or Helvetica (iTunes, Address Book, iOS).  These are the two main system fonts for OS X, and that will help MC fit in.

Bump.  We know there's a font expert hiding somewhere on this forum.

You rang?

Use Lucida Grande.

1. it's the OS default
1a. so Macheads are used to it
1b. and then won't complain
2. it has a TON of glyphs in it
2a. sorry no Asian, however, whatever they've got selected as their UI font (i.e. for Japanese the OS X default is Hiragino) is going to do it for them anyway
3. it is highly highly legible for screen use (absolutely one of the best) and was designed so
4. my type mentor guy designed it, and he won a MacArthur award, so there ;D

If you choose to use Helvetica, you have opted for the "new" Mac way of thinking and gone with "hip" factor over ease of use. Helvetica Bold on iOS is one of the absolute worst decisions Apple ever made. Don't do it just to follow suit. That's not the JRiver way. ;)

Any other fonting questions, hit me up. It pays my bills but it's not every day I get to use my knowledge to solve a problem I genuinely care about outside of work.
