TV driver not working
« on: April 04, 2002, 01:49:32 am »

I have an Hauppage TV card and when i try to view using MJ i get an error.

PlaybackENG.

If i select scan for channels i also get the same error but it does show the first channel on the screen until i okay on the error box.

I have just downloaded the latest drivers etc for the card but it is still the same.

Any Ideas.

What type of driver did you install from Hauppauge? VfW or WDM?

The error message came from MJ directly, instead of the TV component, so I am not sure what the problem is. Maybe Matt has some idea?

With VfW Hauppauge driver, MJ should promt you to download some Hauppauge OCX files from JRiver site. Have you ever been promted to do that? If you have and clicked "Yes" (or "Download", whatever it is), you would have download the files neccessary to run Hauppauge TV in MJ. You only need to do it once.

I forgot to ask you what type of Hauppauge card do you have. We currently only support Hauppauge WinTV PCI and USB models.

>"PlaybackENG"

This does not seem to be an error message. It appears on the title bar of the dialog box, right? Did you see any other text within the message box?

I remember when i forst installed V8 it did prompt me to download some files for the Hauppage Card which i did.

It is a Win TV PCI card and works perfectly with the softwate supplied.

Additional Info on the error screen.

When i select a channel i jst get tht empty error box.

When i choose scan for channels it comes up with the same error box but with the message "Failed to Access TV Tuner"

Is it possible to reload the hauppage plug in bits from J River Web.

cheers.

The program fails to recognize your driver as a Hauppauge driver. Do you know the version number of the driver you installed?

Also, try deleting this key from registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Music Exchange\1.0\Media Jukebox\TV Settings

Tried deleting the Key in Reg.
Now when u try to run TV it asks me to select a video device.
In the drop down box the only one available is Hauppage WinTV.
I select this and then get the error as before - slightly different as it now says unknown error.

Re-installed the latest driver form Hauppage - Ver.  3.11.19205

Reboot  - just the same. Actually its slightly worse now as it now lock up the whole PC when i get the above error.
I still have copies of all the old drivers i used to use. Ver. 3.06 and V 3.09

Do you think i should try downgrading the driver to see what happens.

Downgrading probably will not help. I would however recommand using WDM driver. WDM driver behaves very well on my Winodws 2000 machine. I do not know if you have any particular reason for using VfW driver. For me the only circumstance in which VfW driver should be used is if your OS is Windows 98 or 95 because Hauppauge's WDM driver does not work on these OS's. It only works on Windows 98SE and later OS's.

If you want to try WDM driver, get it from this page: \http://www.hauppauge.com/html/sw_wcst.htm

Okay checked the driver on the page you suggested.

Its the same version that i already downloaded yesterday.

Looked at the heading for XP drivers (I run Win2000) and yes theres a newer driver and it states WDM and it also says for Windows 2000. (Dont know why they've hid it under XP)

Downloaded and installed it.

Back to MJ - same problem.

Go to regedit and delete TV key again. Then back to MJ and it asks me to select a video driver.

This time in the drop down box it shows me 2 Hauppage drivers available so i select the new one that i just installed.

Bingo, Perfection and all's well that end's well. - It works - well it looks okay after a full 5 minute test.

thanks for all your help and i'll buy you a beer next time we meet.

thanks again

Mike.

I can't get the TV to work either.  Am using an ATI All-In-Wonder 7500 video card with TV tuner.  It works great by itself but not under MJ8.  It won't load... getting pop-up screen "PlaybackEng, put_Channel failed. Cannot setup TVTuner.  Code: 0X80090057".  The TV worked ok with MJ 7.2.

DocLotus

Make sure you have the latest MJ8 beta

do you have any channels in the tv listing?

if not add one manualy.

once you have that in there then do a scan.

this should be fixed in the latest build if this is the same problem.
