Failed to download and install the 'LAV Splitter' filter
« on: March 27, 2013, 06:00:43 am »

I have seen this in other threads, but have not found any solution to it ....

When trying to play a video file on my computer (MC 18.0.156), the adding required component message appear, but it fails with the message:

Failed to download and install the 'LAV Splitter' filter

Can anybody explain that is actually wrong ?. I have a 60 mbit internet connection, and full access. Have also tried to run as administrator.

Can I manually download this filter ?

It does the same with my MC17 instance ...

It is likely to be related to "security" software running on your PC.

Well, if firewall is turned off, and the windows firewall service is stopped, and Microsoft Security Essentials Real Time Protection is off, and it still does not work ....

What then ?

Can you inform where the download is getting from and which port ? So I maybe can do som telnetting to test ?

I can see that MC18 is downloading something from s3-1-w.amazonaws.com, but the bitrate was only 2-5k/sec.  I have a 60 Mbit fibre connection, so it's should not be an issue....

Did some 'sharking' and saw a redirect to http://files.jriver.com/dependencies/plugins/lav/lav_v37.zip.

This file was downloaded in my browser in 3 seconds. Can I unzip it locally ? And registering it manually ?

It doesn't need to be registered.

I believe so.  You definitely just unzip it.  I'm not 100% sure where, but plugins sounds likely.  I forgot to look last night...

Very weird the download isn't working...

The download apparently did work.  It's the unzip that didn't.  It's possible the PC is old enough the match functions on the chip aren't there.

Well, after unzipping the contents in the plugins folder, it seems to work.  Maybe you should have a more consistent error message, to distinct from download and unzip trouble?
