Just an idea side column Theatre View
« on: April 01, 2013, 12:22:17 am »

Just an idea, makes sense to me but wondering if anyone else likes the idea at all? in the picture if you keep pressing left you will be taken back to the top rollers to exit the view you are in. How about if you keep pressing right a side column pops in just like how you can swipe in menus like on some ipad apps (gmail app comes to mind)..

There could be some useful options displayed with icons such as toggle access control (which could be set on or off with a four digit pin on the remote), party mode, zone etc. I realize this goes against how pressing right works when you are drilled down into the file list, as pressing right will go to the secondary roller and show watched and so on.. But in defense of the idea there's no real need to press right on a file to get on the secondary roller when you can just press enter or ok on the remote and some of these toggles like this would be much easier to access than having to drill down in to the more menu on the top roller..

I believe in the view you’re showing pressing right on the remote would typically take you to the beginning of the next line? How would you work around this? Or have I misinterpreted your intent?

I released that would be a short coming.. But how integral is pressing right to get to a newline when we can just press down? I don't know about others but if we could have a sidebar with easily accessible features, in my opinion it would be good. I do press right to get to a newline but normally just press down.

I suppose the question is, if it is worth it? Other features accessed more easily while sacrificing a secondary way to get to a new line..

It depends, I guess, on whether the object of your affection is at the beginning of the next line or not. :)

But I generally agree with your premise. Easy access to some of MC's many features could be improved for those of us that traverse the MC interface using a remote.

just some food for thought I suppose, I've no great expectations that this will work or some form of it will ever be put in but it is fun to come up with ideas. If keeping right for a newline is integral, how about just using the left button? The left button could open up the sidebar and still get back to the top roller. It would just require one extra push to get to the top roller.. Would that eventually annoy people? I don't know.
