Newby with Licencing Question
« on: April 15, 2013, 02:30:14 am »

Hi all,

I am new here, so I hope the question is in the right forum and topic, if not, please point me in the right direction.

I am on day two of the free trial, wanting to migrate from a Windows MC & Windows Home Server 2011 combination. I am running JRiver Media Centre (MC) and XBMC in parallel. At this stage MC is the winner and I would probably purchase, mostly because of the server capability.

However I am looking at the licencing issues. On the website the only reference I can find is that it is licensed on a home and office system. In the forums I found a post stating that it is licensed on a "reasonable" number of systems.

A quick count around me found the following :

1 x Home Server
3 x HTPC
2 x Home Office Desktops
2 x Personal Laptops
1 x Office Desktop
1 x Office Laptop
Large number of mobiles and tablets.

Excluding the mobiles and tablets (Android - I assume free) there are 9 systems (currently), that I may want to run MC on.

Is that a reasonable number and will one license suffice ?

Regards,

Willem

If they are your machines, it's fine, but if you don't own them (friends or neighbors or roommates do), then it isn't.

It's an honor system, so you get to decide.

Thanks for asking.
