ASUS Xonar Essence One DAC and ASIO
« on: April 15, 2013, 02:52:18 pm »

Hello,
I Have trouble with  ASIO Mode (others modes OK).

I can't run a song in ASIO mode because the program seems to loop :

Media Center is buffering with the "bit perfect" led of ASUS DAC
then fail and the led turns off and then the program re-buffering
The diag windows display the message :
Device Xonar Essence One ASIO (0channel shift)
Buffer Type: 16 (2205 samples)
Output Format 44100 lhz -2 channels
Post Output Ready: 0
ASIOStart Return Value: 0 (should be 0)
Plugin Open Return Value: 0 (should be 0)
Buffer 0 Pointer: 20892088

The same problem occurs on Windows 7 64bit and Windows XP 32 bit and MC17 and MC18

The XONAR ASIO Drivers are up to date :
Essence One driver Version 7.0.11.5
Essence One F/W Version: 1.27
Audio Chip: F/W 0111

Thank you for your help.

Buffer type 16 is 16-bit (ASIOSTInt16LSB).  Unfortunately, Cmedia defaults to this setting (it shouldn't even be a user setting, in my opinion).

To change to 24-bit, use Options > ASIO > Output mode settings... > Open Driver Control Panel.

I don't know if this will solve the problem, but it's a good thing to change anyway.

Here is some info that could be useful:

Quote from me:
Quote
I'm using windows 7.
With my xonar essence one I had the same problem of  "Playback has requested multiple
restarts in a short amount of time" when i updated the driver to  7.0.11.5.
Un-checking 'use large hardware buffers' didn't help.

I went back to driver 7.0.8.2158 and all is fine.

Im now running windows 8 on all my PCs and im using 7.0.11.5 with no problems.

I would suggest uninstalling your current driver then re-installing 7.0.8.2158.

Good Luck

Thank's U2 for help. Happy to tell you, Problem is solved.
For the Asus Essence One
1-Buffering is prohibited in ASIO mode (uncheck the parameter of MC).
2-Asio works on 16bit and 24 bit. (I don't listen difference between this two modes).

MC and this DAC give me the oppotunity to rediscover my CDs. I think essence one is the best deal (I own the muses version).

I have an other question : the DAC can upsample. If I understand MC does-it also so  you can activate the one, the other or maybe both. It takes time to test every combination. Does anybody have an idea for the best config.
