I want to start testing my new HTPC as our master server - and I want to transfer the library from the existing "server" (my work PC). But I do not want the settings of my work PC to pollute the settings of the HTPC. I am working on specific zones, theater view etc etc on this new PC that have nothing to do with the old PC.

Is this as easy as NOT selecting Settings when restoring the latest backup (From my work PC)? Will any existing zones, theater view stuff etc be preserved?

Appreciate any tips.

Cheers,

I'm not positive, but I believe that you need to include settings to get the theater view and other customized views to copy over.  I think it's easier to do this, then change the few actual options back to what then should be for the HTPC, than try to re-create all the customized views on the HTPC.

However, I've not done this myself for quite a while, so I could certainly be mistaken.  I need to do something similar soon, so it's something I'll need to find out anyway.

I'm VERY hopeful that views and appearance customizations will be interchangeable in MC before too much longer.  Not just for us to share amongst our own machines, but amongst each other also.  I know some folks have very nice, customized views, but I don't have the time, knowledge, or energy to do that kind of thing myself.  Being able to share would be really nice.

Well - I did a quick test yesterday - but restoring a backup from my work PC to the HTPC - and left all options on during the restore - and the restore trashed my Theater View, zones and so on on the HTPC - hence my question on how to do this :)

I spent a bunch of time getting the settings right on the HTPC - and do not feel like recreating that again :) Hoping that I can just get the library positioned and have everything else I have done thus far - left as is.

I fear this is not possible tho - I may have to dig in my heels and "correct" anything that gets trashed.
