DSD128 on MC Mac
« on: July 09, 2013, 11:27:43 am »

Back in May Matt posted:-

Quote
"If you mean using 4 channels of DoP at 176kHz to do 2x DSD (instead of 2 channels at 352kHz), it has been requested by a DAC manufacturer.

I think the odds of us supporting it are high, but I'm not sure when it might happen."

Has it happened yet on the mac version of MC?  As I just get an error saying "Something went wrong with the playback 352kHz, 64bit 2 channel isn't supported, use DSP etc".  I have a Mytek dac that does support it and plays it happily with other software.

Thanks

Paul

We have not done this yet.

Are you using a Stereo192-DSD?  I didn't think it supported more than 2 channels on Mac.

I know this works on Windows using the ASIO driver, but when I tested Mac it did not work.

Are you able to pick 4 channel output in DSP Studio > Output Format with MC and play regular PCM as 4 channel to the Mytek?

I suspected as much.  To answer your questions.

Yes it is a Stereo DSD192 Dac, but you need to update the firmware to the latest beta version (1.7.5) otherwise it doesn't work.

Yes I can play play a redbook aiff file as 4 channels to the Mytek, well thats what audio path is currently telling me.  It is saying "Convert from 2 channels to 4 channels" and I can hear music.

That's good news.  It means the hardware side should be ready.

We'll add support in the next few months, although I can't say when exactly.

Feel free to bump this thread every couple weeks to remind us.
