DLNA tablets (Gizmo and JRemote) as renderers
« on: August 07, 2013, 10:32:57 pm »

I use both Gizmo and JRemote to control MC and also to stream audio to the device. I would like to be able to do this, but using MC to send the music to the device, i.e. have the tablets show up as DLNA devices in MC's Playing Now tree and Overview.
Scenario: Android device permanently wall mounted in kitchen, connected to speakers.
From my living room HTPC, I should be able to see the Gizmo device and send music to it just as I would one of my network receivers.

Is this/Will this ever be possible?

This is a use case we're very interested in supporting (tablets around the house).  But Gizmo isn't a DLNA Renderer, which is what you need to push media to it.  So you would need to have an app installed on the tablet.  Maybe bubbleupnp?  Doulos also makes something.  Read their threads here.

yeah, BubbleUPnP has a built-in renderer, as does MediaSteersman (my app).

I have to go with BubbleUPnP, since my tablet runs Android 2.2 with no ability to upgrade.
Thanks very much for the replies.

18.0.212 (8/5/2013)

1. Fixed: Exiting Theater View while the 'News' view was loading could crash in some cases.
2. Fixed: JTV video conversion lip-sync problem.
3. Fixed: The option to start playback of the current playlist would not work when MC was configured to start when Windows loaded.
4. Changed: Red October uses LAV filters version 0.58.2 (thanks nevcairiel).
5. Changed: Removed 3d text visualization (it's no longer possible to create a 3d mesh from text using the D3DX helper).
6. New: RiverComm* -  Use your laptop or Android device's camera and microphone to page other devices running MC or Gizmo. Video transmission will be choppy in some cases, but will be improved in MC19.
7. Fixed: A few 3d visualizations were not working properly on Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Hmmm, I can play stuff on BubbleUPnP on the Android, but it doesn't show up in the Playing Now tree for me to push music too. May as well use Gizmo if that's the case.

Networking issue, or some program option in BubbleUPnP. There are also other DLNA player apps to try

Yes, I will look into them. I'm sure my limitation to Android 2.2 is an issue too.

Did I mention that you are a funny man!  ;D  For the record - Poultry does not seem to work as an inducement for the MC crew....
