External HD support - auto-import remove broken links
« on: August 26, 2013, 01:41:26 pm »

Hi,
Is there a way to get the Mac version to not remove all the stuff from my external HDs when running auto import? I've checked the option in auto-import config for Fix Broken Links: Yes (protect files on missing drives). But it still removes them when I auto-update.

I know I could set it up to Exclude: Volumes/External Hard Drive

But Im editing a lot of the tags for the external files even when it's not plugged in. So I want it to update those tags when I do plug it back in for renaming/moving/organization purposes.

Not sure if I'm just a n00b or if this is just 1 of the features waiting to be updated for mac

Best,
Mike

You can set it to No and when the drive is connected, choose to update tags from library (right click, library tools). This will force the tags from the library to be written to the tags in the files.

I just tested it and you're correct, this is not yet a Mac feature, thanks for the report.  As far as "update for external changes", here is a good explanation. http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=82821.0

Another one:

If the last modified time on disk doesn't match what MC has in the library, it knows that something must have changed the file.

In this case, it effectively does a Library Tools > Update Library (from tags) on these files.
