Buffering during playback.
« on: March 15, 2002, 04:01:06 am »

Hi everybody,

We are trying to fix the buffering bug, but unable to reproduce it.

If you have problems with playback because of buffering please send your system information into this thread. Include you OS, CPU and Sound Card, it would also help a lot if you would include information about your Sound Card driver.

Thanks in advance.

(I posted this message on the DIBENG thread first, as that's where the original
problem started.)

Other apps: I previously had been running web browser (always) and ftp server
(often) and audiogalaxy
(sometimes), during testing (for the DIBENG error) over the last couple of days.
Today, only MJ.

I have tried Matt's suggestion and turned on the track info (dirt simple) and
have had  no DIBENG crash after
two hours, but...

*first 45 min with no other sys activity, all fine
*began editing playlists and file info
*at 65 min minor buffering started, continued editing
*at 120 min buffering got really bad
*have stopped editing and bad buffering continues and play is choppy and poppy
*at 128 min, tried stopping (annoying) playback and restart MJ
*playback window switched to buffering immediately after I clicked the
stop button
*MJ stopped responding and had to be crt-alt-del'd

System Info:

My sound card is built in to this Dell OptiPlex GXa, I think its driver is
"Crystal PnP Audio System MPU-401
Compatible" Microsoft, 4/23/99 (At least that's the info I get when I click on
device manager.

After the last post, quit 'testing' and finished up playlist editing and started to send files to the cd burner-- in MJ. Buffering started and then-- DIBENG crash. (Generic windows b&w error box, click ignore, then standard GPF dialog.) Had been playing tracks while working for 15 min(??). Also had web open.

I get the buffering problem each time that I minimize MJ and then restore or maximize? it
If I don't minimize MJ no problem (at least for 2 hours)

JimH

I have been following that thread also. I think the only difference is sg2 has been running an anti-virus and I'm not. I'm sure you folks have checked some of the threads, another similarity is my system and sg2's. With the exeption of scsi, really close. But I still don't get the buffering problems he is getting. Once again, after following Matts suggestion about disabling the vis plug-in, I haven't had hang-up.

I'm not sure about the sound card. If I look in system properties/device manager/ sound, video and game controllers, there is a listing for a ES 1869 Control Interface from ESS Technology, Inc. File version 4.04.00.1251, Driver:ESS Date 7-20-1998.

There is another one- ES 1869 Plug and Play Audiodrive, Driver 7-20-1998, Provider ESS.

If that's not the sound card info you want, point me in the right direction and I'll try to find it.

Had been playing MJ for several hours with no vis' running and no problems until...
All files prior to this hang have been mp3, this time a wma came up and started buffering constantly. Unable to just close MJ, had C-A-D to shut down. Could it be this type file? Anyone else have this happen with wma file?

I think I've got the buffering problem....

Playback suddenly stops in the middle of a track or hangs at the start of a track with a "Buffering nn%" message.  The only way to fix it is to hit stop and play again.  Trying to play another track before hitting stop at least once results in the "Buffering" message without playback.  I've been trying every 8.0.xxx version for the past few weeks but 227 is the first version I've had this problem with and it happens reguarly.

I think this is a bug within MJ, not with the OS/SC.

I was playing some stuff and the buffering message stayed on through the entire song. The song played fine.
Sorry, but the only things I did was start in minime, changed to megame, back and forth. Changed some visualizations/trackinfo stuff. minime was kinda screwed up at the time (winamp skin).

I have a Soundblaster Live sound card that I had tried to install while back, but kept getting the message that the soundcard was not installed or something, so I pulled it out, erased all the SB files, and rehooked the Yamaha.

You guys want me to try again? I'm not too very good at this sort of thing anymore, but I'm willing to try.
