I use the Notes field to add important session information - artists, date/place of recording, critical reviews, etc. In a number of cases, the Notes summary doesn't appear at all in the Notes column in the library view. I use this view because it's far easier to scan the info from tool tips without reverting to the Tags view.

There's no particular pattern to this - mp3, FLAC, APE, etc. I had some of the same issues in 18, but it appears more frequently in 19. I've elected to automatically update tags from library properties.

Could it be that for these cases, the Notes field starts with newlines and they just appear empty upon quick inspection in a column (but have tooltips when hovered)?

If not, can you share an entry or two for these files?  The easiest way would be to select the files in question, and use File > Export Playlist.  Select:

   Format: Text File (CSV delimited)
   Included Fields: All Fields
   Output Range: Selection

Save it to the Desktop, zip it, and attach it in a reply here.
