Minor feature request - red 'Clip' light on UI
« on: October 16, 2013, 09:03:06 pm »

I have so many PEQ, room corrections, etc, that it is hard to know if clipping protection is occuring and thus reducing the quality of my music.

An easy and very useful feature would therefore be a small, possibly flash and hold for 'x' seconds 'CLIP' icon somewhere on the main UI, or failing that, on the DSP UI.

Probably loads of people out there have clipping occurring without even realising...

Thanks!

Yes pleeeease!!!  :D

Why not use the "audio path/DSP" button that already has it's change-color-functionality, it goes blue when bit perfect. Would LOVE to have it go red on clip.

I would go a little farther with this and would like to see a metering section somewhere in MC that could show clipping indicators, R128 values during playback and so on.

For such a full fledged audiophile grade application - it would be nice to be able to have metering options (that could be turned on and off) to be able to check on things from time to time.

Cheers,

Didn't we used to have a tiny pic of a black cat, and when audio clipped its eyes would flash red?

You can watch the output level at the lower left corner of DSP Studio.

If you use 'Clip protection' (recommended, and the default), you will never clip.  Instead, the volume will turn down as necessary (and slowly restore after a hold).

If you use 'Flatline overflows', the output will still be capped at 100%, but you'll get distortion on overflow since the output should have gone over 100%.

Since 'Clip protection' automatically handles clipping, it's not clear to me when the red light would illuminate.  Audio Path will report that it's engaged.

If you're having clipping problems, consider switching to Internal Volume:

Pin DSP Studio into a custom view scheme pane?
