Converting FLAC to MP3 for use on my IPOD
« on: May 28, 2014, 08:39:55 pm »

Good evening all,
I just finished ripping 900 cd's using dbPoweramp in FLAC format for my main music system in the house but now I want to convert them to MP3 as well to download onto my IPOD so I can listen to music in the car or while working out.  What is the best way to convert the files quickly?  Is there a free software convertor available?  Can JRiver or dbPoweramp do it for me?

Thanks.

Use MC's HH sync.  Create a virtual handheld, which is a folder, and chose the settings you want.

Alternative is that you can install the
Rockbox Software on your Ipod to allow it to play Flac Files....

Thank you gents for the quick replies and information.  I was able to get them all my cd's placed on the IPOD but I noticed that they are all in a variety of bit rates.  I discovered the options after the fact (new to this) and see that I could have chosen the bit rate.

Is there a way to just sync again with a higher bit rate to get a better quality or do I have to start over again?  I was hoping for a bit rate of 192 or 312 as I have lots of room on my IPOD Classic.

Thanks.

I think if you change the bit rate, you'll have to reconvert and re-sync.

How do I do that within JRiver?  Do I have to delete all of the other files first and then sync again?  It makes sense but I am just curious.

Thanks.

Once a CD or song is ripped to a bitrate, you can not rip it to a higher bitrate. If you wish to have higher bitrate music files on your Ipod you
will need to re rip the music from the original source. i.e.CD.

It depends on what you did earlier and what settings you have.

If you have

Tools > Options > File Location > Conversion Cache > Audio

set to create conversion cache files, then those cache files need to be deleted.  Check your settings here, and if they point to a single directory, you can just delete the cache directory, change your HH sync settings, and resync.

I did go to the folder and delete them all but when I try to resync it will not start over again.  I would hate to have to go CD by CD again when they have all ready been ripped to JRiver and exist.

I want to just clear the IPOD and restart.  Or just sync over the current ones with a higher bit rate.

It just seems that it should be so easy.

Thoughts??

Delete the files on the HH as well.
