Build 108 change in AMD Hardware Acceleration
« on: January 24, 2014, 12:13:05 pm »

Quote
3. Changed: DXVA2 Hardware Accelerated video decoding is used in RO HQ when no other acceleration options are available (on AMD graphics cards and older Intel graphics chips).

I am currently involved in adjusting settings after installing a new AMD video card.

So, it would be really helpful to get a clarification of:

* What was done before build 108, and
* What is now being done in build 108

as the quoted statement is a little ambiguous.

( Does this mean that prior to 108, even if you had Hardware Acceleration for Decoding checked, it would not do anything when using AMD video cards? )

  Thanks !

Correct.

AMD acceleration worked previously, but broke at some point (I don't know exactly when), and until 108 was ineffective even when enabled.

Hendrik might know exactly when it broke.  I'm not sure.

Please don't hijack threads for unrelated questions.
Just set the option for hardware acceleration if you want hardware accel, the best option will be automatically chosen. Before this change it would never use hwaccel on AMD with ROHQ. The change clearly states what it will do now.

I asked the question yesterday in the thread where the change was reported and there was no answer.

Since that time, there were several answers in this thread, to other people who were posing questions, which were related to the issue of the new changes to hardware acceleration.

Having said that, I'm happy to post in whatever fashion would be best for the development staff, but I have never seen anything specific.

I'm glad this has finally been fixed. I've had to manually insert LAV Video filter into my ROHQ video chain to enable DXVA2 on my AMD GPU since the day I got MC18 over a year ago. Now I don't have to bother with updating my Shark007 codec set all the time.
