What on earth does the Backup Library do?  Where is the library backed up?  What is it stored on?  I have hit this button in MJ 7.2, but nothing seems to happen

Also, when is MJ 8.0 going to be out of beta?

Sounds like you're new to MJ. Here's how I see the library:

The library store the extra information about your music files that MJ needs to know. Things like your view schemes, your playlists and tag info for files that don't support it. It consists of 4 .jmd files which by default live in
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Data
but you can change that in the Library Manager.

If you lose your library files, through a disk crash or accidentally deleting everything, you'll still have your music files, but you'll have to reimport them all and rebuild many of your customisations. To protect against this, you can regularly back up the Library. It stores the 4 .jmd files in a zip file of your choosing.
