CD Burner at 2x speed
« on: February 06, 2002, 06:28:14 am »

I downloaded the free version of Media jukebox and used it for a month with
no problems whatsoever on 2 separate computers with CD burners. After the
free trial period of 1 month the burners on both computers would only
operate at a maximum of 2x speed regardless of what program I was using to
write music to CDs. (Although the software indicated the burners were running
at other speeds) Removal of media jukebox did not help and re
installation of the burner software did not help either. Can anyone please tell
me how to get my burners back up to speed again after Media jute box
restricted the speed to 2x for not buying the full version.

The free version will only allow you to burn at 2X, you have to buy the full version in order to burn at your CD-Burner's maximum speed. It's the same with MusicMatch, Real Jukebox etc..
In other words: OPEN UP THE WALLET if you want to continue using the full version of this great program. Err... ummm.. they DID tell you that the full version was a 30 day trial

Thanks for the reply.

Even with Media Jukebox all removed, no software on my computer will allow my CD burners to operate at beyond 2x speed. How can I get end this. I can only assume that Media Jukebox is to blame as it happened on 2 speratate computers the day the 30 day trial was up. I don't mind removing media Jukebox, only that doesn't fix the problem.

It's probably just coincidence that after uninstalling media jukebox your burner would no longer go faster than 2x.

I do NOT think there is anything software could do to cripple your burner.
Software could write to the registry or maybe even some software place inside your burner.
But I don't think software could cripple you hardware.
That is why it is called SOFTware.

On the other hand, if you could document this, that would be helluva law suit.  No one should hurt your hardware; that would be like the carpet vacuum salesman who leave a permanent stain on your carpet after giving you one of those DEMOs.  You know the one where the salesman flings some harmless dirt into your home.

What other software are you using?.. Are you using other shareware? They may have expired at the same time. I had previously installed and uninstalled MediaJukebox about a year ago and never had a problem with my other software. I just reinstalled it and registered it because it is simply the best burner/player out there. I really believe that it is a coincidence that your other software doesn't right.

I have the same problem as Steve.  I DO have the "plus" version.
I have a Teac CD burner, and MJ indicated 12x speed in "settings" but in the "burn" dialog it says "speed 2x".

here's my details:
Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.203

CPU: Intel Pentium MMX 233 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 196 MB, Free - 15 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Workstation 5.1  (Build 2600)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2600.0000
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2600.0000

thanks,

First MJ was causing computers to reboot when you tried to buy the software.  Next it restricts burners to 2x speed.  Whats next?---
I was creating a data CD last night and I went to bed because I was tired of waiting for it and when I woke up my PC was toast.  Mouse, keyboard, CDROMs, power button, reset button, all didn't work.  The only way I could get the thing to shut off was to turn the power supply off.  Ohh Ya the couldnt' get anything to display on screen.  I started it back up and got same results, although the power button on front did let me turn it on.

The only thing I could think of was my motherboard went bad.

Well I took the bios battery out and replaced it with a new one and now back and running.  Did MJ corrupt my BIOS, did it run down my battery?  I would have to say, no, it was just a coincidence.  But it was excellent timing.

Same problem in 8.0.203. Generic driver unchecked, MJ reads my Plextor 12/10/32 OK, but the burn CD dialogue restricts it to 2x. Have rebooted, same result.

System info:

CPU: Intel Pentium II 450 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 163 MB, Free - 68 MB
Resource Info: System - 63 %, GDI - 84 %, User - 63 %
OS: Microsoft Windows 98

Internet Explorer: 5.50.4807.2300
ComCtl32.dll: N/A
Shlwapi.dll: N/A
Shell32.dll: N/A
