gvag:

Someone deconstructed your prior thread.

Don't use FreeAmp for playback or burning/encoding. It is the alternative program to use for album d/ls on EMusic, if you want to avoid the poisonous RealPlayer.

Deconstructed my thread?!!

Have I offended the powers that be?  If so I am offended.

I'm even more offended by RA, after a reboot to get rid of the OSBOOT THINGY I exited MJ only to be greeted by an RA dialog informing me that a nasty program had usurped its rightful place as the default player on my system.

There were instruction to click on "more info" to resolve this conflict which I did only to be greeted by the blue screen of death.  ARRRGH!!!

Thanks for the response.

HTH,
Are you (and others) saying that FreeAmp is an alternative to the RealPlayer necessary for MJ to use Real,Inc. files? It is not only Emusic's player, it is also The New Napster's player.

JimH,
Are you saying this is an unacceptable subject? I hate all things Real. I have NO Real applications. There are some places that Real is the only format used for song samples. Is there an unobtrusive RealPlayer file I can use? (Shudder)

Don't know that it's an alternative for playing RA files. I never touch the stuff.

All EMusic files d/led with FreeAmp are in pure mp3 format. It's an alternative program for mass or album downloading of EMusic files, through its download manager....it queues selected albums for you.

FreeAmp is a player ONLY.I know one situation where you can use it instead of Real:if you stream any mp3.com song,playlist,mymp3.In this case,FreeAmp opens,NOT MusicMedia. In this case there is 2 things you do not get with MM:name of artist and song for each song
and you can rip on the fly on your hard drive on mp3 format any stream from mp3.com.I do not stream from others places than mp3.com,so i cannot say about others places
Concerning Emusic and FreeAmp.You can download one song or a full album with one click. In this case it is a RMP[not sure kind of Rich Media Packtage]You can use only two applications for do it:RealPlayer;very slow and very messy,or FreeAmp fast and ok
At the beginning of Emusic-private fonded by the son of Electra fondateur-they gave money to help the free, open ressources FreeAmp.Because of it you can use FreeAmp for one click album download
So,you can use FreeAmp for some task,ON HIS OWN,you will not be able to ask MM to handle this task as a plugin
If you want only the download manager you are better to download the EmusicFreeAmp from Emusic page,100% stable. If you want the non-stop steaming and rip,you need the last one.FreeAmp do not conflict with MM.In an over hand much of the MM users do not need it
Concerning RealPlayer, you can find a way to get Real less-bad[as i say] and MM opening instead of him for many tasks
If you spend quite a lot of time on Internet Explorer,a big time on Netscape you can get MM handing 99% of Real tasks.I do not see the point. You get the real screen NOT the MM screen inside MM.If you want full screen, and so on,you see that you you open Real settings NOT MM.I mean you do not get any |PLS|,because of MM HIGH quality
Do you need Real or not?Up to you.Depend of what you stream. If you are still on a 56 moden,i do believe you better with Real stream. If fast connection ALLWAYS chose the WindowsMedia format.
This opinion his after hours and hours of try s and settings,so i think it is a good one
Stange word guys with Real and Universal on the map ,uncle Bill looks allmost a nice guy!!
I do not have time to check this long post,so mistakes are included in the $25 price you pay to Rivers......
Have a nice day or nigth

HTH,

I installed FreeAmp and went back to eMusic, to which I'm now subscribed, clicked on entire album button and up comes RealAudio.

So I'm back to Download Express which is blindingly fast.  By the time I've clicked the last track in a list and figured out what I want to grab next, its finished.  A very nice freeware program which just does what its supposed to do, does it very well and nary an add or upgrade to the professional link in sight.

I did a mistake, you need RealJukebox or FreeAmp to download full album
Listen to your mp3.Very fast downloads give sometimes some problem.
I do not know Download express, but i had a try to a load of download managers.Because Emusic is a secure site with your email for password, you cannot use a download manager to download.Emusic confirm this
As far as i know here is a rule:if you can download with a download manager,it means that your connection is not 100% ok
If one day you cannot download with a download manager, delete RealJukebox and install FreeAmp
If you get RealPlayer -and not RealJukebox- open when you try to download a full album,it means that your computer is quite a mess.I can tell this you from my experience. And you will have problems with MediaJukebox as weel
Anyway welcome to the "MEdiaJukebox-Emusic"club

Re: emusic downloads. I use Get Right download manager on a 56k dialup. I click on each song in an album to download, Get Right hops up and cues the files, I tell it to download at 2 a.m., it dials out, downloads and hangs up the modem. No muss, no fuss. And I don't have to mess with Real or Freeamp. Couldn't be easier.

Again,it is cause your connection is not 100% ok.Not such a surprise with Windows
If your connection is 100% ok,you cannot use any download manager.Send an email to them asking "how to use a download manager" and you will see the answer.I did some tweaks for optimise my connection, all the settings are as they have to be and i cannot use a download manager.I use and like a lot GetRight

zevele1,

I haven't checked all the files I've downloaded but there were no problems with the ones I've listened to.  Perhaps the difference in our download experience is that DE (Download Express), http://www.metaproducts.com/de.html , is not a download manager but a download accelerator.  It simply takes over the file transfer process within IE, you have to be logged onto the site in order to use it.

I had a look at the site. But i use only Netscape and it works only with Idiot Eternal
The fact that it is not a download manager can be the raison it is working.
For the fun ,i restored my Windows original connection settings and i was able to use a download manager. But original settings=speed of 700 and 40/50 kps for download. After tweaks= 1.2mb and more,up to 320kps for download
