I was browsing eMusic and decided I wanted to hear a sample track but when I clicked the link MJ popped up with a dialog box saying it couldn't find an installation for Real? 6.

Do I actually have to install RealPlayer/RealAudio in order to play these file types in MJ?  The reason I ask is I don't want RealAnything near my new system.  On my old system if I played a real audio file RealPlayer instantly installed itself in my SysTray and into my startup files!  I had to use MoreProperties to get rid of the darn virus!

Try FreeAmp. Much less intrusive, and it permits Album as well as single d/ls. You can find it on the site under audio players (I think).

BTW, I've been very happy with the music selection and general philosophy at EMusic.

If you download the new FreeAmp instead of the "EmusicFreeAmp",you can listen to playlists like mp3.com non stop.And you can rip on the fly on your hard drive in mp3 format.
If only the download manager is of interest to you,in this case keep the EmusicFreeAmp who is more stable
Do you know how to re-download songs no more on Emusic catalogue?If not ,i will tell you

Any zip,any country-Unckeck all the cases during the process
Do not give any format to play to Real-All cases blank and uncheck the "allways play Realc content with Real'
Before you install Real,uninstall MediaJukebox.After Real in place,install MediaJukebox.Like this you may allmost feel that Real do not f..you around

Re eMusic I'm seriously considering it.  What's the quality (bitrate?)of the downloaded files?  There's a fair bit of stuff there that I have on LP and am thinking I'll be happier with downloading it rather than trying to record it from the source.

zevele1, took your advice seems to have worked except good old RealSh t had to get one last kick in, when I hit play in MJ after reinstalling Real popped up with a dialog informing me that it wasn't the default player for all the files I had just finished telling its setup program I didn't want RealPlayer to handle.

So I closed MJ and restarted hit play just to verify that Real had taken the second no to all as my final answer.  They should change all their Real tags to VirusesRUs or some such as far as I'm concerned.  Their worse than MS or Intuit IMHO yuck and bloodboil to them.

EMusic files are at 128kbps. Commonly advertised as near CD quality. Depends on what you have ears for. More than adequate for me. When measured against 192 or 256 on a superior sound system, there is a noticeable difference.

Depends on yr priorities. If you're dealing with material you don't have and don't want to spend $8-$12 per CD for (the old Fantasy/Prestige/Riverside catalogue), no contest. I've added something like 2500 files over the last 3-4 months at an aggregate cost of $50-$75. Conservatively, hard cc would have cost me (12 files to a CD, which is very high) $1500-$1600, probably more. No cover art, but I get that through MJ. Add the personnel in a custom field. So, all you're missing is liner notes, unless someone knows where to get them on-line.

I'm a fan, if you couldn't guess.

BTW, if you can access my Music01 library, you'll have some idea what you can find.

Gee, I sure am glad I kept MoreProperties www.imaginary.co.za/"" target="_blank">http://http://" target="_blank">www.imaginary.co.za/" target="_blank"> around from my old system!  My touchpad mouse was being a bit flakey so I rebooted and Lo! after the bell there was a dialog from the my Real Message Center floating over my desktop.  Technically I guess RA is not a virus to my mynd its more like a wormy germ you can keep on working but you feel YUCK!
