Hi,

I just switched over to MC20. Does MC20 rip at a quicker pace? I made sure to change my ripping speed from max to 4X which was the speed I was using in MC19. But it seems much faster. My imagination?

there was just a post on this but people were saying it was ripping slower. There was a bug which was not ripping in secure mode even though that was checked (you should almost always rip in secure mode IMHO)

Just an observation though, provided your hardware is not really old, you should be able to rip much higher than that, depending on the quality of the cds and errors encountered my rips might start off at 10x but four cds later I can be flying at 36x. If you are ripping in secure mode and the data is verified, slowing things down won't insure a better quality if the ripper is good. This was an issue a long time ago, but this is pretty much sorted out ... the drive might me at 48x max, but the software will rip at the maximum secure speed -- might be 8x might be 25x - depends. if the rip is not in a "secure" mode though that's something else again.

With your statement about some prior discussion of slower speeds I am wondering if maybe I was having that same problem with MC 19. Because ever since I switched to MC 20 is is MUCH faster.  But maybe MC 20 is regular speed and I had been ripping at a MUCH slower pace.

I do not know the difference between secure and non-secure rips.  The MC 20 was set for non-secure rips as the "default" setting. What is the difference between the two settings?

And I'm glad you brought that up ... been only using secure for years so never checked that it is called "Normal" -- I'm going to verify this one, but I'm used to ripping in programs outside of MC -- Secure does error checking and write verification. You want to do this to make sure the rip is the bit-perfect (or as bit-perfect as it can be) Some cds are damaged and can be read but can't be ripped in a Secure mode, so you use a "burst" mode (normally much faster and no checks to and from the disk) which sometimes will allow you to rip the disc - there would probably be errors, but if you can't or won't replace the damaged CD it is an option.

But is normal this burst mode? Frankly I'm not sure .. if nobody chimes in I'll get back. In the mean time set it to secure and don't limit your drive speed unless you are having issues.

Also, you might want to turn off auto audio analysis which will really slow down the process. Do it later when the rip is finished successfully (or on import if you want)
