How to play to Sonos
« on: September 22, 2014, 01:01:29 am »

Hi all,

I have a sonos system in my house. I would really like to use JRiver (MC20) to play my Hi-Res files on the Sonos. (Sonos will not play hi-res music files).
The Sonos components show up as "Media Renderer"s.

I set up a DLNA Server (called it Sonos) and set
Mode: Specified Output Format
Format: PCM L16 No Header.

But it doesn't work.

Has anyone else got this to work? Are there other settings I should use?
All help appreciated.

In the DLNA Server Advanced setting: instead of Sample Rate = Same as Original try choosing a lower rate (e.g. 44100 Hz or 48000 Hz)

Thanks for the reply, Andrew. I should have mentioned, that I have already set it to 44100 Hz. (trying to emulate the standard CD format).
It doesn't work.

*Bump*

Anyone? Am I really the only person who wants to use MC to play my hi-res music thru Sonos?

Apparently Sonos does not support L16. So it is DLNA non compliant. Try setting MC's server to convert to PCM 16 bit instead.

Thanks! I'll give it a try and report back.

Apologies for the late response, but I did want to report back that PCM16 worked for Sonos. I am now able to play all my files, with the Hi-Res transcoding down.

Thanks very much!!!!
