Why does MC only export 18 music files to iTunes Library?
« on: October 25, 2014, 04:21:35 pm »

Some time ago, I transferred a playlist created in MC to my wife's iPhone. I cannot now recollect exactly how I managed to complete the transfer; all I remember is that I was forced to use iTunes, which I found infuriatingly unintuitive. All my previous computing experience has been in a Windows environment and I find the Apple way of doing things quite bewildering.

My wife has now asked me to update her playlist with a couple of extra tracks, so I am starting again from scratch to find a workable transfer process. However, I'm not getting anywhere, as I can't even get the modified playlist into iTunes.

I am running MC 20 and iTunes 11 on a Windows 7 PC. My wife's playlist is called 'Darleen #1' and when I display it in MC, with all tracks selected, and then run File/Export to iTunes & iPhone... I get a dialogue box that lets me export the playlist to a new folder in the iTunes library. I chose to save the playlist to a new folder called Media Center\Darleen #1. This appeared to work and when I switch to iTunes I can see this newly created folder and subfolder under Playlists.

The problem is that the playlist contains 47 MP3 files in MC but only 18 of them were transferred to iTunes. Deleting the playlist in iTunes and repeating the export from MC just gave exactly the same result. What might I be doing wrong?

I have found the cause of my problem. It was due to advancing senility :(

Not having looked at my wife's playlist on MC for quite a long time, I had just assumed that it only included MP3 conversions of my master FLAC files. In fact, the playlist was originally created from the FLACs, while only my recent modifications were MP3s. The 18 files exported to iTunes were limited to the MP3s.
