Dual HDMI out from HTPC? one video 4k other audio
« on: November 02, 2014, 06:42:43 am »

Hi.

Is it possible to use the HDMI on my gtx970 to send 4k video directly to my projector and then sending the audio through the motherboard HDMI out?

Problem is my surround pre pro cannot accept 4k.

It should be possible. You would have to use an extended desktop. You can send the video card output to the projector, and a smaller resolution (1080p?) to the pre-pro from the mobo. This should carry the sound to the pre-pro and the video to the pj in sync.

Ok I entered the bios and forced both gpu to be active. Got sound now from the onboard HDMI and video from the dedicated GPU.

Problem though is that no Windows desktop on the onboard HDMI just desktop picture.

You have an extended desktop now, which means that one output is an extension of the other. What you need to do is go into the displays control panel and make the 'desktop picture' monitor (the non-dedicated GPU display, I believe) the primary display. It should be a right click option in the control panel's representation of your monitors.

You'll then have to go into MC's video options to tell it which display to play video to.

Thanks. I will try that when the kids are sleeping tonight. So little time to test things out so appreciate all the input!:-)

I know the feeling. I always plan stuff for when the wife and kid are asleep, but by that time I have little desire to do anything except read forums!

How do I tell jriver which display to send it too?

I got it working though I guess. In Windows I set 2 monitors with the 4k as primary and 3840x2160. Monitor 2 with the audio is set at 800x600. It seems that in order for the audio to arrive both videocards need to send the videosignal HDMI is all or nothing I suppose. It all works well with jriver + madvr. Jinc 3 taps chroma and upsampling was the limit for smooth video. AMD A10 5800 with GTX 970 - as expected performance wise? Enabling image doubling caused lag.

Running windows at 3840x2160 and then jriver+madvr playing 1080p content who is upscaling?
