Merging Hapi - Problem with playing DSD format
« on: September 05, 2014, 11:34:36 am »

Hello,

Recently acquired Merging's Hapi unit with premium cards. I'm in the process of evaluating JRiver (tried MC20 and currently using MC 19) to play DSD files on Windows 7. I have the following setup :

1. Selected Tools -> Options -> Audio Device -> Merging Ravenna driver (ASIO)
2. Enabled Tools -> Options -> Audio Device -> Bit Streaming (DSD)
3. Selected Tools -> Options -> Audio Device -> DSP&output format (DSP Studio) -> Output Encoding -> 1XDSD in native format...
3. Merging Hapi is set to DSD-64
4. The .dff files that I am playing are in 2.88 mhz (DSD-64) format

I get some strange noise from the speakers and the song counter at the top increments only after 3 seconds. Wondering if someone can help me to debug this issue?

TIA

Vinod

What happens if you turn off bitstreaming (#2 above)?

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the quick response. I realized that I misspoke in my previous post. The scenario is in the previous setup, the "2. Enabled Tools -> Options -> Audio Device -> Bit Streaming" is set to NONE. But, when I enable "2. Enabled Tools -> Options -> Audio Device -> Bit Streaming (DSD)", I get  STATIC NOISE and music playing faintly in the background.

That's really weird because we're delivering the DSD exactly as-is when bitstreaming.  If that doesn't play, it almost seems like a DAC issue.

The DAC is capable of DSD-256 and is using Ravenna to communicate to Windows 7.

It plays PCM properly though. Wondering if I'm missing any steps in my setup?

According to the following on page 5, the Ravenna ASIO doesn't handle anything more than 192khz.
