Catalog a Music CD only, do ot import.
« on: December 14, 2014, 03:03:12 pm »

Hi,
I would like to use Media Center to catalog some of my CDs, not rip them. Is this possible?
Thanks

Yes.

MC needs to see each CD, so, load your CD view from the Drives and Devices section of the tree, as shown...

Go to "Tools > Options > CD, DVD and BD > Autoplay and set "Audio CD" to "Nothing"
Insert your CD, refresh, correct any metadata errors, eject, insert next CD, refresh, and so on....

When you're done, or earlier if you're curious, you need to create a view for your catalogue.
Right click on "Audio" and choose "Add library view"
Select the blank view option and name it something sensible like "Offline CD library"
Add at least Artist and Album categories.
Over on the right, in the "included files" section...
click on set rules for file display, hit the import/export button and paste in the following, without the quotes: "[Media Type]=[Audio] ~d=c"
Press OK
Press OK again
Remove the tick from "Use parent scheme rules"
Press OK and you're all done bar personal tweaking to suit your own tastes and needs.

If you need any more help/pictures, just shout.

Thanks for the help. When I get to this step:

Insert your CD, refresh, correct any metadata errors, eject, insert next CD, refresh, and so on....

I see the CD listed under Drives and Devices, When I eject it no information has been added to the catalog.

... I am using Media Center 18... should this still work?

Yes.

Skip to the steps for creating the view for your catalogue. Then you should see your CD listed.

If you have done that already, and still not seeing anything, we'll need to look closer.

You should see something along these lines....

I have also added a "Volume Name" pane in there. Note that MC is also able to catalogue data discs as well as audio CDs.

If you prefer a view to show both your online (stored on HD) music, as well as your offline audio CDs, we can make that happen for you, but let's get to that once you're done feeding those discs into MC.

Marko,

Autoplay: Audio CD is set to 'Nothing'

When i insert a disc it shows up in Drives and Devices.  Te listing looks correct but is not being imported into the database.

I can play it but no luck getting it to appear in my catalog.

Your missing the most important thing marko said: You have to make a custom view to see them in the catalog. They are in the database after you play them, but are hidden. Create the view using the rule he specified and you will see them.

Thank you... that did it.

I did this before and did not see anything in the view. Must have screwed up the script.

Great product, terrific support.

THANKS
