Convert Audio Format to 128Kbps AAC
« on: December 24, 2014, 09:14:36 am »

Just a quick word on my situation.
My CD music library was originally ripped using Media Monkey to MP3, mostly at 192kbps. I'm now using JRiver MC20.
I've had a subset of the library on my iPhone 4s, 32Gb as mp3 files. I recently upgraded the phone to a 5s but it's only 16Gb. Now I have to cut way back on the number songs I can load on it.
My thought was to re-rip most, if not all, of my CDs to Apple Lossless who's encoder is already included with MC20. This would be time consuming but a little bit at a time and it would get done. (531 CDs). In MC20 I'd then construct a playlist of the songs for the iPhone. I would then convert the format of those songs to 128Kbps and save the copy to my laptop. These would be added to my ITunes library on my laptop and then synced to the iPhone. I prefer to use ITunes exclusively with the iPhone.

So, what I can't figure out is how to get MC20 to convert the Apple Lossless files to a 128Kbps AAC format. There's no encoder with MC20 for 128Kbps AAC. Is there any way to add one?

thanks,  -phil

We have a AAC converter for video files, I'm surprised we wouldn't have one for pure audio. I'm not at a PC right now, but I'll check after the holidays.

Thanks.

When I select the Convert Format item from Library Tools I get the same list of encoders that appears in Options for ripping CDs.

See attached.

You can get aac conversion for audio by setting up an external encoder.

Search the forum and the wiki for more detail. Also, this link may help:

I ended up using Apple Quick Time or Apple Application Support to reformat to AAC files by configuring External Encoder in MC20.

This thread explains how that works.

To summarize:
I have QuickTime 7 installed.
Downloaded qaac_2.44.zip from https://sites.google.com/site/qaacpage/cabinet and extracted to a folder on my hard drive.
Set up the external encoder per the following
