CDDB registration loop
« on: January 22, 2002, 08:03:32 pm »

I'm in version 7.2.280
Up until tonight, I've had no trouble inserting audio CDs, doing the CDDB lookup and ripping.
Now, however, MJ keeps telling me to register for CDDB. Of course, I already did that weeks ago.
When I go into settings and click on the CDDB Registration button, all I get is "You must register to use CDDB!"
I can't register, or access previous registration data.
Help!

You may be seeing interferance from a CDDB control from another music program.

Jim

I disabled CDDB in MusicMatch, and I no longer get the prompt to register CDDB. However...

Now, when I insert a CD in either DVD or CDR drive, MJ freezes. In the close program box, it says msgsrv and/or MJ are not responding. (Also last night I did an update database and MJ hung).

In addition, I checked the CDDB registration button in settings after disabling CDDB in MusicMatch; now it says "CDDB: Not implemented (800040001).

Settings for both HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE8160B burner and LITEON DVD-ROM LTD163 are: disconnect and auto insert notification are enabled; sync data and DMA are not; digital CD audio is enabled.

And, again, everything worked previously. I haven't installed any new music software or changed any settings since setting up MJ.

Thanks for the help.

You may need to uninstall the other application.  You might try CDDB support also.

Jim
I appreciate the response, but your suggestion is depressing.
As I said, everything worked fine previously.
I switched to MJ mainly because of its database/library features (which were similar to Real, which I otherwise detest). But as time goes by, less and less of it seems to work.

You apparently have a conflict between two different versions of CDDB.  To get MJ to work, you may need to uninstall other applications.  You can also try reinstalling MJ.

The issue is a problem with CDDB's controls, not with MJ.

OK (sigh). I'll try it.
btw: do I need to uninstall MJ first or just run the installer again?
thx

I've reinstalled MJ (without uninstalling anything else). It solved the CDDB problem, and I burned an MP3 CD successfully; haven't had time to try other things that weren't working.

I've used ECDCreator and MusicMatch for some burns since MJ has been on the system. Does alternating programs mess up MJ settings or registry? Is this why I had so many problems?

Thx
