Toolbar Icon for Open/Close Tree
« on: February 04, 2015, 05:53:18 pm »

I see that it was asked for as long ago as 2009.

Toolbar Icon for Open/Close Tree,in the standard view.

There is a close button for the expanded file (tracks) of say music album

and then if the Tree is open on the left, we have to mouse over to find the spot to double click and close the tree.

That we can add to the toolbar, please. Surely this is not too much to ask.

Thank you

Also this is extremely difficult to close the tree from a touch screen tablet/almost impossible

You can double-click the divider to open and close.  Did you know that?  It makes it pretty easy.

You could also assign a keyboard shortcut for it too. I'm short on time right now, but if you're interested, I can post how later on...

Thanks Matt /

yes I know the double click on the divider/ although it this action, that  I think should be replaced by an open close

on the top toolbar where we can customize other shortcuts

Thank you

Thank you Marko,

a keyboard shortcut would be very appreciated,

And I do not understand JRiver's reluctance to make this simple action available as a button on the customize toolbar

Thank you, and I await your keyboard shortcut / with anticipation of the convenience it will offer

It's most probably to do with boring business related stuff like development time, money and priorities :)
Don't despair, you haven't been told "No" so maybe one day in the future, when you forgot you even asked for this, it might appear. You never know. In the meantime, you have double click on the divider, and, if you follow the steps below, a "Ctrl+d" keyboard shortcut...

  • Close MC (and server if you run that)
  • Open explorer and browse to your MC installation folder. (On an x64 machine, that defaults to C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 20)
  • In there, you will see a folder named "Data". Go into that.
  • Here, you need to create a folder named "Custom Resources"
  • Save the file named "Resource.txt" that is attached to this post in the "Custom" folder you just made, and rename it to Resource.xml.
  • Launch MC and now, when you press "Ctrl+d" the tree will toggle open or closed.
  • Read notes below!
Notes:
  • If you're curious, open the file called Resource.xml found in the "Default Resources" folder to see a full list of global and MC only keyboard accelerators, along with notes about how to use them.
  • Keeping the file in a custom folder means that when you update MC, your customisations will not be overwritten by the default file.
  • MC gets clever about these custom files and merges the contents with those in the "Default" file. That way, if anything new is added, or changed, you still get the new along with your customisations.
  • If you decide to try adding further keyboard shortcuts, check the default file to make certain that your chosen combo is not already in use by MC.

Hope that helps.

Also...

If open MC's options, look under "Startup > Interface" there is a checkbox for "Show Tree"....

If you uncheck this, if the tree is closed when the program was last closed, the tree remains closed the next time it is launched.

Marko /Thank you for your time and effort

Clear/concise/informative,instructions. And works beautifully / you have made me a very happy JRiver enthusiast.

The info you have given me will enable me to create other shortcuts, your a great conveyor of Knowledge.

And as you said, all is not lost they may still provide a close/open for the tree,it just seems logical to me.

Like I said if you can open the files(tracks) of a CD album and then close it from a close button,

should this not be the same for the tree or anything else you need to close.

It is the way my mind works anyway, and I would like to thank all the people who are responsible for the JRiver Media Center,

It is just a Fantastic piece of software / and I will always support every release (Through the purchase of a license) as I have done so in the past

Special Thanks Marko/ your the BEST

I wouldn't say I was 'the best', but thank you for your kind words.

It's good to know that our contributions are helpful and appreciated.

Next build:
NEW: Made a toolbar button 'Toggle Tree' that toggles the visibility of the main tree.
