How to find dupes but with different filetypes
« on: March 04, 2015, 11:43:18 am »

How can I search for files/tracks which in the library which exist in both APE and MP3 formats? The information in the Wiki is very sparse to say the least.

I opened the entire library, expanded all stacks and tried "~dup=[Filename (name)] [Filetype=ape] [Filetype=mp3]" (as well as other convoluted syntax) in the search box. But nothing I tried worked.

For example, I would want to find these sample combinations:

\\nas\Music\George Benson\White Rabbit\George Benson - White Rabbit.ape
C:\users\username\music\George Benson\White Rabbit/George Benson - White Rabbit.mp3

as well as
\\nas\Music\George Benson\White Rabbit\George Benson - White Rabbit.ape
\\nas\music\George Benson\White Rabbit\George Benson - White Rabbit.mp3

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

The default smartlist "Audio -- Task -- Possible duplicates" might help.

The syntax:
[Media Type]=[audio] ~dup=[artist],[name] ~sort=[Artist],[Name]

Thanks Matt! That syntax gave me most of what I needed. It even exposed a few other superfluous files; namely duplicate rips, i.e "sometrack (1).ape"  I tried to further filter the result set from the above search term to look for filenames conntainig "(1)" in them. But the result modifiers don't seem to contain the ability to filter by filename. So I had to search for all files (non-dupes) with a (1) in the filename and then manually check the results one by one to see if there was a matching primary files

Does anyone reading this post have a comprehensive primer on the search syntax I can refer to going forward? As I said, the info in the Wiki is sparse at best, maybe even outdated.

Thanks again!

This is pretty good in my opinion:

Awesome! The link you provided is exactly what I needed. I was at http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Category:Search_Examples which is the Wiki I was referring to as being sparse.

Thanks again! I feel as if I just received a big jar of candy. ;D
