Retroactively applying folder and filename rules
« on: March 15, 2015, 09:08:27 am »

Apologies for a newbie question, but my inept searches yielded nothing.  Using Tools>Options>File Location, I changed the folder and file name rules.  Is there any way I can apply the new set of rules to the existing folders and files that were saved using a different set of rules without having to do it manually?

Also is there a flag that I can set that updates the saved folder and file names as I edit the properties of the library fields? So e.g., as I change the album name from "Parsifal - Richard Wagner Herbert von Karajan Berliner Phiharmoniker Peter Hofmann Siegmund Nimsgren...." simply to "Wagner: Parsifal," the folder name (with the folder rule [Album]\) in the Music folder automatically updates to the latter shorter one?

Sorry for the dumb questions and thanks ahead of time for the answers.  JRiver MediaCenter seems like a nice bit of software, but I'm still coming up to speed on its many features.  Thanks again.

http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Moving_Files

Select all of your files, right-click>Library Tools>Rename, Move, and Copy Files

Quote
Library Tools / Rename Files from Properties

Using Library Tools, Rename Files from Properties, you can use the renaming to move your files.
1. Select a few files to test before you do many.
2. Check the Directories box.
3. Set the "Base Path". This is the folder under which your music will be stored. Example: C:\Music
4. Set "Rule". Example: [Artist]\[Album] will make a directory named for the Artist and a directory under that for each Album.
Once you've done this for the selected fields, you'll see the proposed results on the right. Hover your mouse over one or two lines to make sure it's going to do what you expect. Then press "OK".
