Files hosted on NFS share fails to import
« on: March 30, 2015, 10:01:25 pm »

Hello,

I am running the latest version of MC on a Windows 7 professional VM acting as a library server with 2 x macminis as remote players. I have been trying to import approx 111,000 audio files - a mix of WAV, FLAC and MP3 - that are hosted on a nas4free NAS server.

My initial import of 100,000 files went OK, but after a recent upgrade to the nas4free server software I was experiencing weirdness using SMB/CIFS - auto-import would not detect all files, stopping at random times - so I thought I'd switch to NFS. However, under NFS no files get imported.

As test, I tried to import 6 x 24/96 WAV files into a empty library.

On the NAS I export the directories on a read-only NFS share as well as a read-only SMB share and mount them as different network drives within the Windows 7.1 VM.

In MC 20, I clear the library, reset the logfile and configure the auto-import of just the audio files on NFS mount. The import runs to completion, but no files are exported. I repeat the same actions for the SMB mount and all files get imported correctly and play just fine on one of the macmini players.

I'll try to come up with some small test cases on the SMB/CIFS import issues, but in the meantime are there any thoughts on why the NFS based import fails ?

Logs attached for NFS failure

Seems to be an issue with NFS under windows as I spun up a Debian VM and installed the latest linux version of Media Center and was able to import the 6 test files.

A larger test of approx. 3,000 files also worked, so I'm running an auto-import of all files now. Fingers crossed

For accessing them via Windows, can you access those NFS shares via Windows Explorer?

I'm pretty sure MC (at least the Windows version) just uses the OS APIs for filesystem access, so if it works in Windows Explorer, it should work (and vice versa).  If you can't navigate to them from there using a standard drive letter or UNC path, then you're probably out of luck.

I have now deleted the Windows VM as the Debian solution seems OK and I prefer to keep my use of Windows to a minimum.

The mounts - SMB and NFS - were both mapped using windows explorer - map network drive - and mapped to a lettered drive.

I didn't have an audio device configured for the VM, but I could load the files into audacity from the NFS export.
