Latest version seems more unstable than before. frequent freezes and shut downs. I was merely editing a playlist and it froze - multiple times.

You may have something else going on that is causing this. There are many possibilities. Please start here and tell us what you learn.

Thanks. I excluded mc20.exe from my Security Essentials scanning options. Hope that will solve it.

Excluding mc20.exe won't do any good at all. That is just a command launcher used to automate Media Center.
