Adding Cover Art Remotely
« on: May 16, 2015, 06:33:48 am »

Hi

I have my Media PC running in one room and I do most of my maintenance on a different room on a PC using the Media Network feature.

I see quite often that changes I make do not sync to the Media Library

For example I added 5 Album folder.jpg the other day by adding from file in the Album parent folder

I am set up to automatically sync , and I did the belt and braces manual sync Library and got all the right dialog and messages

I see on the Media PC and in JRemote that the covers did not sync.

If I make text Tag changes they seem to sync with no problems

Any ideas why ??

Cheers

There are certain library maintenance tasks that cannot be done from client instances of MC.  One of those is changes to cover art (other than removal).  There's no way to change cover art from a client, you'll need to change it on the server directly or use remote desktop software (like teamviewer or VNC) to remotely control the server. It's a known limitation of the current library server implementation.

Most of the other things that you can't do from a client are greyed out to indicate they won't work, but this is one of a handful that will still let you perform the task (and appear to succeed) but won't actually change anything on the server.

FYI, A quick list of library tasks that must be done on the server:

1) Cover Art
2) CD Ripping (greyed out)
3) Importing generally (greyed out)
4) Renaming/Moving Files
5) Changing/adding library views/theater view views
6) Audio Analysis (greyed out)
7) Format Conversion (greyed out)
