Subtitles: what's the difference between Off and Null?
« on: November 14, 2014, 08:49:21 pm »

They seem the same to me.  I understand Null to basically mean 'without value', which in this context seems to mean 'none'

This seems to have the same affect as Off, so; why have both?

I believe Null actually removes all subtitles, while "Off" will still display subtitles if they're forced.

I'd rather MC actually displayed whether it's using forced subtitles or not.

Okay that makes more sense.  Although, I can't think of any circumstance where I wouldn't want forced subtitles to display, so it still seems 'redundant' to have the option.

You might speak both languages for example.
I do think that Off should be off, and Media Center should tell you when forced subtitles are in use. (and what that language is)

I agree, the subtitle option really says very little about what subtitle is actually "active" on playback, and whether there is any actual text to display at any point during the run time.

Could MC introduce a subtitle "viewer" so we can see if the selected track actually has any content to display?

cheers
