Encoding plug-ins for non-internet users
« on: September 22, 2003, 04:13:56 am »

Where can the plugins be obtained for users who don't have an internet connection? Is there a place where they can be downloaded and burned to a CD or floppy disk and then installed?

There is a "cheat" way to do this.

  • Right click on the link to download a plug in and choose "save target as..." and save the file.
  • Open said file in a text editor (Notepad).
  • Part of the file includes a URL (an internet address to the actual plug in). Copy this into your internet browser to download the actual plugin. Save it in the same folder as the previuos file.
  • In the file that you have open in the text editor, delete the path and leave just the file name of the plugin. For example, if the URL is "http://www.jriver.com/plugins/whatever/plugin.zip", change this to read "plugin.zip". Don't fiddle with any other settings else your plugin may not install.
  • Save this file. As long as they are in the same folder, you will be able to install them simply by clicking on the plugin installer file.

Hope this helps. If anyone can explain better -- be my guest!

Phydeaux,
Thanks for explaining.  Here's a link (from our FAQ):
