I just installed the media player and have a question
« on: July 17, 2015, 11:43:48 pm »

I'm in the process of ripping my library to FLAC, and have noticed something annoying and am wondering if I'm doing something wrong.  When I'm playing music through JRiver, I don't get audio from anything else in the system through the headphones.  Is there something I can do to enable that?  It worked fine using WMP, so I'm assuming it's a setting that I'm missing.  I like background music when I'm playing games.

You probably have MC set to an Exclusive Mode for audio, such as WASAPI Exclusive Mode. When you do that, MC has complete control over the audio output device, and nothing else can play to it.

If you want system and game sounds to be heard in addition to music from MC, you will need to output audio using a non-exclusive mode, and probably use Direct Sound rather than WASAPI. Of course, that will mean that Windows will do whatever it wants to your music, but that is the way Windows audio works.

Look under Options>Audio>Audio Device in MC.

Thank you. I'll try that. For just basic use i can deal with Windows, for more involved listening, this it's good info.
