Last.fm scrobbling skipping entries [Solved]
« on: May 10, 2015, 04:40:52 pm »

I've been having some issues with scrobbling from MC20 lately (maybe a few months even?). When I play through an album it'll scrobble only some of the songs but others will be skipped. Oddly enough they will show while they are playing, and when they finish they won't scrobble. It appears very inconsistent with what scrobbles and what doesn't - sometimes it works just fine and other times it omits half the songs or more. Any clue what could be causing this issue? This issue only occurs with MC20 and not other media players or devices.

I've got the same issue here running JRiver Media Center 20 on Windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit). Any news on what could be the reason for this behavior? It is very inconsistent. Sometimes scrobbling works flawlessly, then again only some tracks of an album are scorbbled while others are ignored. Somewhat ruins my lastfm statistics.

I'm using the same, still haven't figured anything out though.

I have the same scrobbling problem as the OP.

I'm running Windows 8.1 and MC 20.0.108

I've only noticed it since using version 108. It happens intermittently.

Yes, I've had the same problem for months unfortunately with any version of v20 that I've been using.

Sometimes it will work flawlessly, sometimes it won't scrobble a single track. Rebooting my PC normally fixes the issue for a while so I'm guessing something is interfering with the scrobbling sometimes.

Even during the times it won't scrobble it will still show the song as playing now on lastfm website but at the end of the song JRiver doesn't seem to send a confirmation that the song has ended so it doesn't get scrobbled and added to my stats.

I can still force scrobble a song by playing a couple of seconds near the end of a song then double clicking the next song in my queue to skip forward. I have to constantly be checking if each song has scrobbled and forcing the ones that don't which is an annoying waste of time.

Other times it can be scrobbling perfectly but as soon as I click to fast forward part of a song from then on it won't scrobble any songs any more which is strange and have to reboot again.

I never have any issues scrobbling from Spotify so it may not be a lastfm problem but something to do with JRiver not confirming the song has ended.

I have my JRiver set to pass my audio to my USB DAC via WASAPI, which Spotify cannot do so may be something related to that? I never used to have a problem with scrobbling from JRiver until the last few months though and my audio setup hasn't changed.

My submission filter is still set to default: Scrobble only audio, artists is not any empty, name is not empty.

Any ideas how to fix as this is driving me mad! I'm very OCD about my scrobbles :)

Strange, I've been monitoring my scrobbles and it seems to be working completely for me with no skipped submissions.

A firewall issue, perhaps?

I'd wondered that too. I couldn't see a Firewall rule for JRiver 20 so added it to the allow list.

Strange how it works intermittently though. A firewall is set to either block or allow so unsure why it would intermittently allow.

I'd assumed something else on my PC (either network based or audio based) was somehow interfering with the confirmation message JRiver pushes out to Lastfm when a song has completed playing and should be scrobbled. It has been a tricky one to diagnose.

So far so good since adding the firewall rule to allow JRiver 20. Haven't had any further scrobbles failing.

Nope, spoke too soon! It scrobbled flawlessly for 2 days then wouldn't scrobble a single thing most of Friday. Even disabled the firewall entirely which didn't fix the scrobbling. I'm currently at work using the portable version off a USB stick and this won't scrobble here either. Not had a problem scrobbling from work before.

I'm guessing there's something wrong with my lastfm account on Rjiver as it's happening from 2 different places on 2 different players. Just my login credentials and USB dac are the same.

Also have the problem when outputting to my surround sound so don't think it's dac related. So annoying. Any suggestions?

Most of the scrobbling problems we've seen have been with the server, not with MC.

Hi Jim, do you think the problem is lastfm side? Just listening to an album at work on JRiver. First 3 songs didn't scrobble, then it decided to work for 4 songs and then stopped scrobbling again! No issues earlier today with 3 albums on Spotify.

Not sure what else I can do. Are there any external scrobblers that work with JRiver? The official one doesn't mention JRiver compatibility.

I'll try disassociate my account with JRiver and then reconnect my account to see if that helps.

Did you enter your login and password in JRiver under Options > Services?

Yes, my credentials are entered there, box is ticked, and my submission filter is still set to default: Scrobble only audio, artists is not any empty, name is not empty.

Sometimes scrobbles fine, sometimes will only scrobble some or none. I can force scrobbles by playing a few seconds near the end of a song and then double clicking another song. I'm having to do this on every song it misses scrobbling which is quite annoying.

Affecting both my home (local install) and work (portable) installs of JRiver, both used to scrobble with no issues until the last month or so.

Disabled firewall at home and still doesn't work sometimes. Occasionally starts working if I close and reopen JRiver, sometimes a reboot will make it work again for a while. Sometimes won't work at all no matter what I try then will start working on its own later. No idea why it's so intermittent.

If it works sometimes, but not always, that's probably the server (Last.FM).  It has happened in the past.

Could be. Strange how Spotify never misses a scrobble and JRiver is very intermittent. JRiver scrobbling is currently working again the last hour. I haven't made any changes, functionality has restored on its own.

Thanks Jim. I have seen that thread too and checked my submission filter after reading it which looks to be set up correctly.
