ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter9_1.exe

The latest build of 9.1 beta is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter91252.exe

Please report only known problems in this thread.   If you want to discuss changes in the UI or make requests, please use another thread.

History:
1. Fixed: Image optimization (auto-levelling) was not working.
2. Fixed: WMA files with fields longer then 1K would crash MC.
3. Changed: Can now go backward and forward through effects while viewing images. (right-click menu or shorcuts 'E' / 'W')
4. Changed: Rewrote image optimization in MMX assembly -- roughly 4x faster now.
5. Fixed: With shuffle on, MC would be slower to play / add to playing now than it needed to be.
6. Fixed: Initializing Track Info plug-in more then once would cause Media Center to draw controls incorrectly.
7. NEW: Added ability to delete images while looking at them in a slide show. (right click / Delete / Shift+Delete)
8. Changed: Thumbnail style lists didn't show focus state with their selection color.
9. Fixed: When rotating an image from inside the playback display MC would not properly update its thumbnail(s).
10. Fixed: After clearing or popup window editing values in the Tag Info pane the right view would not be properly updated.
11. NEW: Added "Set As Desktop Background" configuration dialog to allow picture optimization and aspect mode control.
12. Fixed: Editing of External Tools did not work correctly.
13. Changed: Image playback uses image optimization by default.
14. NEW: Image playback can display user-configurable text overlay.
15. Changed: Fullscreen bar auto-hide delay reduced.

I have been experiencing a bug with Image transitions for a while but as this seems to have been mainly an image build I thought this was as good a time as any to report it ;D

Basically sometimes the transitions seem to work in reverse.  By this I mean the image jumps to the next image, transitions back to the previous image and then jumps back to the enw image.  Its very odd.  There doesn't seem to be a pattern or any particular transition that it happens on although it seems to happen more on curtains in and slide right to left than others and never happens on additive dissolve, blinds or standard wipes.

If it would help I can record a video to show what I mean...

Cheers

Bug:

1.- Media server does not stream cover arts with international characters

UI things:

2.- AW flashes while browsing the library. There is no necesitty of it.

3.- What does "List" mean in AW pages? I think it is very important for newbies to find a real context menu in AW.

Thanks for this long-awaited feature!

Unfortunately the configurable display is not saved after a slide show session. The next slide show displays the default values again!

Major Bug

If you move files (Move / Copy Disk File) and the filename already exists in the directory and you say 'No" to replace, MC will move the entry anyway in the database while the file is left behind.

What this does is you have the same image/file but different properties (resolution/time/etc) for that file. The two file names are shown twice, but are different.

Get what I'm sayin'?

I thought that bug had gotten cleared up.  I remember running into it months ago.  Guess it cropped up again.

1.   If I re-encode an mp3 [to change the bit rate] with an image in the tag, the image is not in the new mp3's tag, even though MC tag info says it is.

Tried the same with CDex and it copies the image in the tag by default.

2.  Is it just me or is the main volume control slider not working for others as well?  I can change volume by sliding the mouse along the slider, but the position of the slider does not change.  So I can't look at the slider position to see if I am playing at, for example, full volume.

Minor bug that's been around for a while.

Clicking the Smartlist wizard and selecting:  Advanced>Add Keyword, the keywords listed aren't in alphabetical order.

Portables Plugin Bugs:

1. When you use the option to force a file conversion, it will only convert if the source bitrate is lower than the conversion bitrate even if the source and destination file types are different. When the file types are different, it must perform the conversion regardless of the differences in bit rate.

2. When you have a bunch of files queued up to go to the portable and you hit the little portable (iPod) button in the lower left corner, it uploads the files, then switches to the iPod view where all the files you just uploaded are still showing as queued. They should have been removed from the queue at this point.

Interesting.  I have never messed around with mjextman, so after seeing this post from Nila, I opened up a Command Prompt and typed the following:

mjextman (hoping to get a command list, but nothing happened)
mjextman /help (again, nothing)
mjextman /play (yet again, nothing)
mjextman --help (only after this one does MC start playing my current Playing Now playlist)

I can repeat this without fail.  Is this a bug, or is this normal?

In windows explorer if you right click>media centre it doesn't matter whether you click play or add to playing now, they both do the same thing (add to playing now).

I have been experiencing a bug in the last several builds (at least 251 and 252).  It may have been present prior, but I noticed it with the addition 3D visualizations with pronounced "stutter" every 5 seconds or so with no other apps running except MC.

However, even with 3d vis off, I have noticed a lag in performance.  A view of the processes running within Windows Task Manager notes a lot of CPU thrashing of the following two services:

INCDSRV.EXE (Nero InCD Service Build 4.0.5.6 most current)

NAVAPSRV.EXE (Norton Antivirus 9.05.15 most current)

You see these two services swapping in and out at roughly 20% or so of CPU usage then to zero..then to 20%, etc. while Media Center is running.  Obviously, with MC running normally this spikes CPU usage to over 50% and lags the computer.  Stop MC, and the service thrashing stops and it does not happen with other applications.  Stop the Norton service and the thrashing stops and InCD is happy.  Stop only InCD and Norton still thrashes about. With Norton stopped, the 3D Vis works smoothly and no noticeable performance issues.

This may have been happening prior to build 250 but I initially thought the performance issues were with MainLobby.  However, I have uninstalled the plugin for the moment since I was seeing large lags in computer peformance (may have been the service issues described above).

System:
Windows XP Pro (current patches and service packs)
512 RAM
Intel 2.53 GHZ

Thanks,
Chris

Bug: Unknown software exception (0xc00..8e) @ 0x01356eca - when minimizing MC

This bug was already seen in 251 and is still seen in 252.

MC is started in Fullscreen mode. I click on Media Library, click on minimize and voila - the error shows up.

Note: If I do a Cntl-E twice to switch to Mini-Me and then back to Maxi-Me the problem is NOT seen!!

Thanks

14. NEW: Image playback can display user-configurable text overlay.

This is a nice feature especially to display my custom[Caption] field. There's one problem thought.

- When playback stops, the Caption settings in the 'Image Playback Config" dialog always resets to the default [Name] - [Date] - [ DSP].
Is there any way to make the customizsation sticky ? Like [Date] - [Caption]

thanks,

C.

Just a quick question about installing the current set of builds.  Do we need to have a full stable build installed before installing the  latest build?  Or can we just install the latest build?

Something got corrupted, and I have to uninstall and reinstall MC.  I'd rather not download both 9.1 and 9.1.xxx.  They appear to be about the same size.

THanks,
kiwi

Pietro, if you search for "minimize bug" you may find something in the thread to help.  This one drove me nuts for weeks and it turned out to be a conflict between MC and Iolo's MacroMagic.  Unloading MacroMagic immediately resolved the problem.

Also, as I've reported in many builds, if you select more than one file in explorer and click on Play in Media Center nothing happens, including adding the files to playing now.

Not sure if this is a bug - but its certainly minor:

Double clicking on the 'display' area does indeed switch the action window to the properties of the current file, as explained in the tooltip. BUT - it also seems to alternate the display title and status bar between the 'play mode (main)' and 'play mode (alternate)' settings as defined in Customise Display. Is this intentional behaviour?

When resizing columns in the playing now pane, the "rating" column does not resize properly. The column to the right superimposes itself over the rating column.

When Playing Now is shuffled from mini-me, MEGA-ME's Playing Now doesn't reflect the new playback order until the next track begins playing.

For next version i wish two things:

1. toggle between TAG Info & Cover Art with one click

2. show the full info of all file in the list in the bottom side, like in the 9.0.180 version, separate file and all file info in one row (i don`t want to use Ctr+A again and again to see this)

A single click would do this.  Do you need to alter your mouse double click speed?

MC 9.1.252 Database Error (fatal)
« Reply #26 on: September 16, 2003, 06:32:41 pm »

<posted on iPodLounge forum earlier tonite>

Trying to get up and running under MC 9.1.252...

1. Uninstalled MC 9.1.249
2. Restored iPod using iPod Manager
3. Installed MC 9.1.252
4. Mounted iPod, MC 9 launches
5. Right Click on "(F) iPod" to Initialize iPod

Error Message: "Error reading the database. Please rebuild database from iPod."

6. Right clicked "(F) iPod" & selected "Rebuild database from iPod" option in MC9

Error Message: "Error reading the database. Please rebuild database from iPod."

7. Click "OK"...MC9 terminates abruptly to WinXP desktop...

more info...

1. Uninstalled MC 9.1.252
2. Reinstalled MC 9.1.249 fresh

iPod initializes under MC 9.1.249 with no problem...

3.  Installing 9.1.252 on top of 9.1.249 produces same database error...

even more info...

1. Uninstalled MC 9.1.252
2. Reinstalled MC 9.1.249
3. Re-initialized iPod - no problems...
4. Copied music tracks to iPod - no problems...

Hmmm....

I so wanted to lay with "Ratings" feature relative to playlists...

Presently sitting @ 9.1.249 hoping for a fix:)

At suggestion of AdamShawley over at iPodLounge:

1. Installed MC 9.1.252 on top of 9.1.249
2. Selected "Rebuild" vs "Initiate"
3. Proceeded with no complaints, no errors....!! whoop!

Ratings sync iPod to PC works like a charm!! (did not work for me under 9.1.249!).

Happy Camper...and soon to be MC9 convert (also TiVo user :))

My friend was using the trial version of 9.0 after I recommended it to him. He found this bug, which I then tested in 9.1.252 thinking it would have already been dealt with seeing as it was so obvious:

Insert a new CD and lookup the track info in YADB. The CD I used had multiple matches, so I selected the first one and it applied them. However, once it had applied them I realised that some of the infos were wrong, so I went to try and get the other infoset from YADB. Much to my suprise, The "Remove Tags" feature doesn't work on CD's as it's trying to remove tags from read-only files (my guess). What suprised me further is that when I went and did another YADB lookup it just re-applied the old tags, without asking me which set I wanted to apply. I found this quite annoying. Maybe it's meant to be like that? I dunno.

One 'cosmetic' but useful thing,

When browsing through 'My Computer' folders, imported and non-imported images both use the same icon making it difficult to know if it is part of the library or not.

I think it would help to have different coloured icons to mark non-imported images as is the case for audio files icons.

thanks & have a great day,

C.

Thanks Shelly. Unfortunately I do not use any special software like Iolo's MacroMagic (btw. what's this??).

I have seen the problem now on two different boxes, my XP Desktop and my W2K laptop, totally different HW and running different SW (except MC of course!!).

This seems to be a consistent bug since a while.
Matt, any idea???

Thanks
