Why Can't I simply Watch TV?
« on: June 29, 2014, 01:51:29 pm »

I know that this is not a Beta-appropriate topic, but my frustration is overflowing.  With WinTV I can simply watch the analog signal coming in and I don't have to mess around with anything, ESPECIALLY configuring an EPG, which is none of MC's business.

I just want to watch the signal coming in on analog 3 (from a sat dish).  How do I do this?

I swear, it's simply an analog signal.  I want to watch it.  WinTV lets me do this.

Does this help?  I made a view showing all the TVLB file types (eg one per channel).  You now can now just "play" any of the channels and get "live tv".  FYI the eos dev is looking at also make this work in his android app.

This one should go straight to the pool room (i.e. the Wiki).

You can also then add this View to TheaterView (Tools --> Options --> Theater View --> Add Button --> Library Item from Std View) See pics.

That is a good tip. I've just been using a Playlist when I needed to get directly to a TV Channel or using the existing view. But with the EPG problems there have been a few questions like this, so adding in the view is a good idea.

Just a few additions quickly.
1. Create the view on the server, as views created on a Client aren't always synchronised to the server. There have been a few posts around view synchronisation lately.
2. I've attached some images that show the first steps in the creation process, as some people won't know how to add a view into the Standard View Tree.
3. This view, using that simple rule, shows ALL channels, including channels that have been hidden, stacked, etc. So the rule needs refinement.

Also, now that I have a "Television Stations" view at the root level of Standard View, I would like to rename the original "Television" view to something like "Television Rules & Recordings". As a supplied view that can't be done as easily as custom views. So if someone wants to document how, that would be good.

If documented properly we could ask for this to be added as a supplied view, perhaps in the "Too Easy" thread.
