Display Plugin, images vs. music
« on: September 08, 2003, 03:30:11 pm »

I'm a new user of MC, and I've run into something I'm not sure how to get around.

If I view an image from within MC, the display plugin switches to "Image".  The problem is that if I then later play an mp3, the display plugin starts displaying the last-viewed images from the library, even though they aren't on the playlist.  Interestingly, it does this even if the images in question have since been removed from the library, at least until I restart MC.

The problem is that a lot of my images are, well, adult, and having them pop up unbidden in the Now Playing section when I'm just trying to queue an album could have embarrassing consequences.  I don't mind so much that the Display plugin does this when set to "Image", but I really wish there was a way to associate a setting of "Track Info" or "None" with music files, in the same way that viewing an image file forces "Image".

Alternately, is it just a bug that the plugin behaves this way?  It does very briefly blink the "you have no images queued" message before displaying my image files.  That plus the fact that it's displaying images that have been removed from the library lead me to believe that this might not be intentional behavior.  I'd find it mildly annoying to have to keep switching to Track Info/None to see album art, but given a choice, I'd rather have it show me an error message than some unrequested porn.

Any suggestions?  Right now, I'm pretty much forced to not use MC to track images, which is kind of a shame.

(If it matters, I'm using 9.1.247)

I have to agree with you on this.

Here are some things that bother me for 'Playing Now' that I'll add to the list.

  • Clearing Playing Now doesn't remove the image list
  • Viewing Images doesn't resize properly. The control bar covers part of it (always show).
  • Playing an image file /w Video starts the video instead of the specific image file I wanted to play. (I know some ppl like this...but why I don't know)
  • Automatic lists both Video and Images as Details.
  • Video starts before fullscreen mode making the beginning hidden.
  • Images show N/A on control bar.
  • When in Windowed Mode, MC always starts fullscreen.
  • No way to hide the control bar, interferes with the image/video.
  • Track Info / Player display doesn't update for streaming media.

The list isn't saved between sessions, so closing MC always clears it.  Also, if you never play music and images at the same time (hit stop before starting another media type) it won't use the "Image" display plugin but instead just uses Playing Now.

In any event, there should be a "Clear Image List" command and clearing Playing Now should also clear it.  We'll try to address it in a coming build of 9.1

Re: hitting stop, that's only sometimes true.  Once it's displaying the image automagically, hitting stop won't fix it anymore, even if you specifically display another image and hit stop.  It does work if you do it after each and every image you display though...just that if you mess up once, then there you go.

If you reset the plugin on clearing the playlist, I'd request that you (at least optionally) do so on an implicit clear, like double-clicking on an album.  That clears the current playlist and adds the tracks of the album to it.  I'd like the clearing function to also reset the plugin.

Next build will add a "Clear Image List" command.

That was a bug that should be fixed now.  It only starts dual mode playback if some music is also selected.

Fixed next build.

It should only use details if music or data files are present.

That's what auto-hide is for.
