Works fine here.  MC 21.0.25 .

F6 is Rename, Move, and Copy files.  That also seems to work fine on my system.

Are you maybe working on files that are in a read only file system?  Or maybe on a client that doesn't have write privileges to a server?  Just throwing out ideas.

A picture is worth 1000 words.  Post a screen shot or two and that should help us communicate.

You can save screen shots to the Desktop with <shift><Command>3 .

There's a wiki article about saving and posting screenshots I wrote. It includes instructions (including for OSX):
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Screenshot

Pane tagging appears to be working fine here, but I'm not clear on how you're activating it. I just check one of the boxes in the panes (and then say yes to the confirmation dialog).

Thank you glynor i 'll make a screenshot tomorrow it's late now.
But i am pretty sure it's a bug the old tag panel is gone after i was skining so i had clicken often on "ctrl+tag."

But maybe if i simply delete MC only in application folder (not in the library) this will resolve the problem.

And now it's the new tag window by default so it's brokes the column renaming...

Thanks for the screenshot. That made it very clear. Pane tagging is grayed out in your screenshot because no Panes are available in that View. You are using a Categories-style View in that screenshot, not a Panes-style View.

Panes:

Categories:

Tagging in the Panes is, somewhat obviously, only available in Panes-style Views.

Media Views in Standard View can have one of five different Styles:
1. Panes
2. Categories
3. 3D*
4. File List
5. Chart

* Only available on Windows currently. You're not missing much.

This is set in the Customize View dialog for the individual View:

Each View added to Standard View can have its own Style. You can only use Pane Tagging on the ones that show the Panes though. I think you were confused about what Pane Tagging did. It lets you apply tags in the Panes themselves, with checkboxes. Like so:

If I check the box under my mouse pointer in that screenshot, it will tag all of the selected Files with [Genre]=[Indie]. Choosing Edit > Pane Tagging (or pressing F4) simply enables/disables those checkboxes. You can also do it by just clicking on one of the checkboxes (while disabled) and MC will ask you to confirm before enabling the mode for you:

But, somewhat obviously, you can't use this if there are no checkboxes and no Panes. And those are only available if the currently-selected View is a Panes Style one.

I'm not sure what you mean about the "columns" at all. Perhaps there you are talking about fields available in the Tag Action Window? This is controlled via the choices under the Tag Action Window's Menu button, as described on this page:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Action_Window

The classic Tag AW can show:
1. Default Tags: these are a "default" set that MC picks for you depending on the media type of the visible files
2. Any Tags that have Values present: if any visible file contains a tag in a particular field, it will be available in the Tag AW.
3. Tags in Current View: shows each of the columns visible in the Details of the File List panel of the View.
4. Show All Tags: shows all possible fields for the visible media type(s).

Hum i have checked i have the new tag window with all of the view because the tag window is related for the track selected...
See screenshot:
About the column i mean select multiple files and to rename them all (eg: the album name for many files)
See "column" screenshot.

I think it was a bug cause now all is working in all view.
