Need advice. I have Macbook Pro + Meridian Explorer Dac + JR MC and would like to find small, powered speakers (wired or better wireless) that will substitute for my headphones. Sometimes I just want desktop music without headphones or played through the mediocre Macbook built-in speakers. Like to use my Meridian Explorer Dac inline with the desktop speakers. Likely I'll need cables to adapt the hookup correctly. Ideas?

There are a lot of choices for powered monitors.  A LOT.  :)  I have little experience with them, but I've read a thread or two about them.

The standard questions apply:  What's your budget?  What kind of sound are you looking for?

Depending on budget I would get some type of "pro mixing monitors", rather than a regular "computer speaker system". There are many brands, do some research.

These look interesting..... http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-MS16-Compact-Stereo-Speaker/dp/B00181T20O/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

or if you have the budget...

Behringer does make some good products at reasonable prices including small studio monitors. I am listening to some B1030P's powered by an AVR, and they are super clean. Be aware that these monitor systems will sound flat and won't have the "inflated" bass that many of the computer speaker systems have. A good small subwoofer may be in order according to taste, but that sort of complicates things and drives the budget up.

There are many many options as blgentry said .....
