DLNA server detection
« on: January 01, 2016, 09:55:09 am »

I have MC 18 and have an issue with the DLNA server being slow to detect when I first turn the TV on. Sometimes it can take upwards of 5 minutes to detect. For this reason I have been using Mezzmo for my DLNA server as it is always detected immediately for some reason.

Anyway, I asked about the problem a while back and I think it was determined the issue may be related to my Virtual Box virtual network interface. I'm just curious if this issue still exists, or if there is any way to "bind" JRiver to just the one network interface so it will be detected more quickly.

EDIT:

Thought I would add some extra info here...

The Media Network log has a bunch of these messages in it under Device Discovery server:
M-SEARCH: http://239.255.255.250:1900*
and
NOTIFY: http://239.255.255.250:1900*

When I list out my interfaces I can tell both are on the 192.168.0.0 network, so I'm not sure what MC is doing searching the above addresses.

The addresses listed above are multicast, not any addresses it specifically tries to reach. Its used for discovery.

You can tell MC to ignore certain interfaces, I'm not sure if that would help to speed up the discovery for you.

I think it might. It's worth a try. You know how to do this?

I believe the issue was it was trying the virtual box interface first? I can't remember, but I know it was something other people were encountering.

MC18 is very old. They made quite a lot of improvements in UPNP discovery since then. So you may want to trial (or just buy) the latest version MC21..
