Cover art "Get from Internet" improvements
« on: December 13, 2015, 11:02:11 pm »

You have a great range of options for cover art importing.
But get from the internet is not always there and missing some basic features.
"Get movie and TV info" is almost perfect.
Can we make "Get from Internet" match this UI?
And make it available for all cover art imports?

"Get movie and TV info"
Has a editable search field.
Has multiple data sources.

If we can add search engines for general image lookup that would be great.

This came up again because. I started using the channel manager to add logos importing.
First I noticed Get from Internet was missing.
So i started using a custom TV stations view for EOS remote viewing.
So that could use a google link to shift click and open a new tab.
Copy the image i like. Go back to the first tab to import it. Then close the tab.
I have a decent system and this is not fast or fun.

Thanks

While I don't think that "Get movie and TV info" is almost perfect (missing language selection; tmdb not used for series although they have better episode images; no cover selection for movies), the "Get from Internet" functionality should definitely get some improvement. It is limited to tvdb for series and does not use tmdb. The search also does not find anything if your season tags have a leading zero e.g. 01,02, etc.
I think that scraping is one of the functionalities that should have a much higher priority in the development than it has now.

I agree, but not only for episode images. I have several series where the episode descriptions are empty in TVDB, while TMDB contains the information. Unfortunately "Get movie and TV info" doesn't scrape these.

I agree restricting it to TVDB isn't working well for me either.

You're saying you have some TV series recorded/ripped that don't have entries at thetvdb.com, but they DO have entries at themoviedb.org ?  That's rather surprising.  What series?

No, they do have entries, but don't always have the episode descriptions. Take for example Kitchen Nightmares where TMDB has descriptions for all episodes, while in TVDB some of them are missing. Same goes for Empire (2012) where TMDB has detailed show notes while there's nothing at all in TVDB. However, I agree that most of the time TVDB is a way better source, but why shouldn't we be able to scrape both of them when MC already uses TMDB for movies?
